I've been seeing some swear words being thrown around in the forums lately. Of course, the usual replacement would be "-blam!-". But I can clearly see the F word, etc.

Did it crash or something?

-blam!- no. I haven't seen any -blam!- -blam!- like that at all, mother-blam!-.

There comes a time in every mans life... and that time is not now.

People are most likely bypassing the filter more frequently.

Tell me where and I'll tell you why.

It's either a glitch or the poster went around it with a similar symbol.

PEANUT-BUTTER SLAP!

The profanity filter can be subverted.

Yeah... apparently [test] -blam!- [/test] isn't on the filter list.

Hmm... it is. I wonder what the poster is doing to get around it then.

As a test, I'm going to test it out myself. Forum Mods, please don't take offense for this, as this is for a legitimate test.

-blam!-

Now it decides to works...

Key

You can use a special bbcode type thing (not sure the exact terminology) that creates a hidden character, editing the word itself so the word sees it as fdu9w8qadg387ed32hdh2dyuck instead of -blam!-.

Over simplified. But still.

lolnope.

The profanity filter can be subverted.
Here's an example (inb4ban): homosexuality...is a good way for society to start accepting different things and ideas. See? Try and type out and post the word homosexual without bypassing the profanity filter. It's IMPOSSIBRU! And it's kind of retarded how that word is blammed out but retard isn't. Bungie y u have broken profanity filter I cry.

I don't know... somethings going around, but this is the last time I'll "test" it out.

But how would a 2 day old account know how to get around the filter? Unless its a alternate. Though I have doubts on that because it has a linked GT.

Have you seen my mind anywhere? I seem to have lost it...

0x0 x0x 0x0 000 000 x0x 000
x0x 0x0 0x0 0xx 000 0x0 000
x0x x0x x00 0xx 0x0 x0x 0x0

I have seen you future

There's some way to put an "invisible character" in your post. I have no idea how it works beyond that.

A new account doesn't necessarily mean the person is ignorant of subverting different word filters. Its easy enough to do on many forums, but will definitely get you banned here.

The best thing to do is report and move on.

It's a soft hyphen. It's invisible unless on the end of a line break. Report that post, btw.

Yes but the question is, how in the world did he bypass the filter? Either it glitched out, or something the poster had done.

I don't mind the swearing, but what are the chances of seeing it without it being -blam!-'d out.

-blam!- if I know.

  • 12.08.2011 7:45 PM PDT

The soft hyphen is counted as a different character. The system works like this:

If I see "f" "u" "c" and "k" right next to each other, change to -blam!-.

But, that's not what the poster has. The poster has "f" "u" "c" "softhyphen" "k", which is not the same as the regular word. Get it?
