The realism argument has NO validity. Most modern weapons are far more accurate than the DMR.

Validity does not equal truth.

It's valid. You know it as not true.

What?

The DMR fires a 7.62 MM round at a single round burst.

Most common modern weapons that fire the SAME round, with a GREATER distance, ALL of which have an option to be fired automatically, semi-automatically, and three-round bursts:

M16A4
M4 Carbine
AK-47

Not only does your post make no sense at all, but you can't back anything. If you even made a claim (I don't think you did).

My post made sense, it just went over your head.

It's still valid. It just isn't true.

Read this for clarity on this sentence.

Want further proof that bloom is broken?

Watch my reticule on the last kill.

I completely missed, but bloom gave me the kill.

I saw that the enemy was just barely in the reticule when you fired the killing shot. Due to the hitbox, it scored for you. This is not only a case of Bloom, but also Bullet Magnetism.

Nevertheless, not once did I say that the Bloom that was in Vanilla Reach okay. I even said (in this very thread, no less) that it was implemented incorrectly. If it was implemented correctly, it would work.

You misunderstood my argument.
Even if it was changed, it still lowers the skill gap.

The fastest shot with the best aim while firing faster is Halo. This is how it's always been.

Edit - it's not hitbox issue. I got lucky because of bloom. If that was to have been on a static reticule, I would have missed. Plain and simple. Bloom allowed me to get lucky, and get the kill.

"This is how it's always been" does not matter to me. I don't like "this is how it's always been".

The dumb circle in the middle shouldn't be going all crazy and sh*it, I mean if it moves a tiny bit then that's OK but it goes wacko and that's not cool. Bloom is from the devil

It doesn't make sense to argue about skill against one of the best Reach players on Bnet.

I'm not ignorant.

You displayed plenty of ignorance when it comes to modern weaponry.

Let's say a defense contractor was tasked with creating a new standard issue assault rifle for the United States Marine Corps. They would be looking to not only beat the M16, the M4, and the various other rifles that are sometimes used (like the ACR, which is amazing assault rifle) but they would also have to beat their competition.

Let's say that defense contractor walked in with the DMR. A rifle that fires the same rounds, cannot be fired automatically or even semi-automatically. It has a fixed rate of fire and, unlike the M4 and the M16, it does NOT have an effective range of 500 Meters.

In fact, it struggles to kill opponents at a range of 30 Meters or more.

What would happen to this contractor?

If you guessed, "He'd lose his Department of Defense contract," then you guessed right. Congratulations.

Realism argument = flat out stupid.

The DMR sucks.

I really like 85%, normal and 0 bloom can both BE annoying at times.

Nevertheless, I implore you to take what I say into consideration. After all, the bigger the skill gap, the better, right?

Obviously hasn't played the updated MLG playlist.

You are correct.

However, I don't need to play MLG to know what I am talking about.

I find it hard to believe than you can recognize a change in the skill gap when you get dumped on in almost every game you play. From your POV, everyone is better.

I can recognize it just fine BECAUSE I get dumped on in almost every game. It's by how much I lose that I can identify this. That, and I have a little brother who is much better at the game than me.

Yes it does but every other weapon in Reach sucks even more so that's why I use it. No bloom is preferred of course

I was not ignorant. I agreed with some of what that other guy said. I never said it aloud because it was unimportant at the time.

Anyhow, what would I know about modern weaponry? I'm not comparing anything to those. However, if I made a comparison when I did not intend to, point it out for me.

I told you, validity does not equal truth. It doesn't have to be true to be valid. This goes in the flipside, as well; Truth does not equal validity.

I am simply arguing that when people cry for realism in bloom they are being completely stupid whereas you are, at this point, arguing semantics.

I don't mind 85% bloom but that's because at that point it's almost non-existent. Default Reach's bloom was poorly implemented and, for those people who cry for realism, is NOT realistic.

The DMR is a joke by today's standards. How that weapon is running around as a standard issue AR in the year 2552 is beyond me.

Damn budget cuts.

  • 12.08.2011 9:56 PM PDT

What rifle are they gonna use for Halo 4. People won't like the DMR but if they bring back the BR then people might say that it's overused.

  • 12.08.2011 9:59 PM PDT

Its been explained a thousand times before, why don't you go read one of the other post that talks about it.

Hmm... I suppose that makes sense.

Perhaps it's not as realistic as I thought.

But then, what about if Bloom was changed so that it would send the bullet to the far left and right of the moving reticule only? Depending on the range, it would indeed decrease one's incentive to spam.

Reality breaking? Sure. Acceptable? Up to you.

To those who are saying bloom adds realism: Have you ever actually shot a gun or do you just play CoD?

If you have ever even picked up a 22 or a .45 you know bloom is not realistic.

I play a lot of Battlefield so I'm pretty sure I know what I'm talking about when it comes to realistic guns.

  • 12.08.2011 10:06 PM PDT

I think they added bloom so people don't keep spamming the trigger over and over. I doubt they were thinking about it being realistic.

That is what I am thinking, now. It didn't work, of course, but that doesn't stop me from trying to think of possible fixes for it.

Best fix is to just use a different weapon all together. I like burst fire weapons better then single fire

Not so much a fix as it is an avoidance. If something's going to be put in a game, I would rather have it actually work right, instead of simply avoiding it.

Well in Reach you're stuck with it you either love it or you hate it.

I find it more realistic. Bullet spread would happen at a higher rate of fire.

The year is 2555 not 2010. The DMR has bullet spread like a gun in the civil war. With the advanced technology they have in 2555 you would think a gun they are using would shoot straight every time and not be so random, right?

Aha. NOW I understand. Coming to think of it, it does, :/. GUYS NEVERMIND. I REJECT MY STATEMENTS, AS I DIDN'T THINK THE BLOOM WAS THAT BAD.
