Subject: Spartan-IVs, ODSTs, and returning characters

Oops. I think I just lost your mind.

From what I know about the Spartan-IV program, it will be using volunteers from the UNSCDF Marines. The ODST are an elite division of Marines most likely to be candidates for the program - ODSTs are sent on missions alongside Spartans and often on similar black-ops type missions.
I have little evidence for this except how cool it would be, but hear me out. Who would be better to lead a group of S-IVs than a known excellent leader and an ODST with one of the longest service records in the UNSC? I am talking about Gunnery Sergeant Buck.
How great would it be for John to be rescued by S-IVs or something (performing an unassisted drop, with Mjolnir Mk VII armor), and have their squad or platoon leader take off his helmet - and be Buck? John wouldn't know him, so it would allow a reintroduction for players that haven't played H3:ODST.

I acknowledge my user name is stupid. However, I promise I'm not.

Disclaimer: The latter is a lie.

I wouldn't mind to see Buck in Halo 4, but only as a minor role. I am much rather looking forward to see the story told involving John, Cortana, 343 Guilty Spark, the Convenant, the Flood etc.

Overall, I'd welcome Buck's appearence.

Didn't John fry Sparky with the splazor? whatever, just replace spark with Mendicant Bias and your list is pretty good. Though it is a little cliche to have the Covenant return after you spend 3 games defeating them, and finally finishing doing so, just to have them return in Halo 4.

UNLESS, this more dangerous evil requires you to regroup the fragments of the Covenant in order to aid you in fighting whatever it is. Can you imagine that, a threat so dangerous that the Covenant, UNSC, and even the Flood rally against it, with Master Chief leading the charge?

Remove the Flood from that idea and you have a point.

I didn't make it quite clear I suppose. But when I mentioned 343 Guilty Spark I was referring to any more back story that could have been embelished upon, as in Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, the terminals involving him, I found, better than the campaign's story itself.

When I was in reference to the Covenant, I was referring to the speculation that where Chief may be, some Covenant forces may have not got the memo that the war is now over. That, and the Covenant rebuilding itself and finding new leaders and systems etc.

:)

More backstory for Spark would be wonderful. In Halo:CE and Halo 2, I didn't care for him much. In Halo 3 I started to like him more, and then with the terminals in Halo:CEA I actually feel sorry for him now. Spark, IMO, is a very good character.

There is nobody TO rebuild the Covenant.

Too bad he's no good at all. I'm not a fan of Buck. Only two people were good enough to be Spartan's on their own merit, and they're dead.

I really REALLY dislike where Traviss is taking this story. Humanity has been fighting the covenant for 3 god damn decades with little technological advancement in all that time. Yet, we win the war and our species is still devestated. All of a sudden, less than a year out, we have forerunner assisted god ships, spartan IVs, and we control a Halo installation. What the -blam!- Traviss?

Don't forget how nothing from the past canon applies much anymore.

I'm an Anarchist. I don't need a government to be a good person, but I'm glad it's here because some of you clearly do.

I don't oppose the idea of having S IV's, but I wouldn't understand their existence, especially if Buck was one of them.

Buck took part in the Battle of Reach, AND the Battle of Earth, so we're led to believe that he saw the Human-Covenant war through to the end, or died before the end.

Why would there be a S IV program if there's no Human-Covenant war? To police the universe against rebels?

I understand that's what the SI and SII programs were for (excluding the datapad story), but the SIII program was constructed entirely for the war against the Covenant, so why would the SIV program be any different? They could just use the remaining Spartan II's and III's. I'm sure they wouldn't want to retire.

I doubt the UNSC would prioritize special military operations during the rebuilding of humanity. If you want a real-life example of what humans might do after being thrashed to near extinction, take a look at post-WWII Germany.

I wouldn't oppose S IV's if they were similar to the products of the S1 program. Regular marines who started out in a SpecOps program designed to make super-soldiers but was shut down before they could complete training.

Which two and by what reasoning are you saying Buck is no good at all.

AI scripting means jack -blam!- canon wise outside of cutscenes/scripted events. Random campaign mission fighting doesn't really count for much.
