I love cookies, and metal.

When someone is reported does it show who reported him?
Just asking if misuse of the report button can be traced back to a specific person.
No I am not planning anything. :)

If I am not posting, then I am reading what you might have posted.

Don't ask mods, wait in time to get your answer.

No, it doesn't show who reported him.
Misuse of the report button can be traced back to you, but only if you misuse it a lot

In other words: Don't worry unless you're actually abusing the report system.

If you are asking this because you are worried about consequences of false reporting, don't. While mistakes can happen, it is extremely rare. Just don't report things out of spite. Be sure you aren't reorting someone because you disagree with what they are saying more than there is a rule being broken.

I do recall something about how abusing the report system is frowned upon... and tracked if you're bad enough. I wouldn't want to test that theory.

I've been banned for abusing the report button on other accounts so possibly.

Yeah, I think you can get a ban if you waste moderators' time enough. I think there is a system, where if you report enough posts (which go onto the report queue) but the moderators do not carry out any action, a notification is sent to the moderators, and you may be banned (or something along those lines, anyway).

What if we report posts, but either not enough people report them and they don't get noticed or the thread dies before a mod gets the chance to see it? Lots of times, this happens with racist posts or flaming posts.

This is why I rarely use the report button on anything but shock site links. I'd rather not risk a ban.

I was actually wondering that quite recently. I don't think it matters unless it actually reaches the report queue. Otherwise, as you said, you could report something which blatantly breaks a rule, but get banned for it, which would be unfair, and would discourage members from using the report button further.
