If you become a moderator, wouldn't that basically mean no more webcam MVPs?
Posted by: SonicJohn Omg! That is right! We can't have that, unless bungie is going to hold some more stuff like that...
I'm not the only MVP signing in around here :)
And regarding the Webcam Games themselves, I would doubt that we'd see the same thing happen again, but it would be great if the webcams were linked back up on the dropdown and used for something. That level of interaction was very cool and unique of Bungie. Maybe DeeJ could see about doing a lil somsin' somsin'. It's been 4 years since I gained this title, back in the summer of '07, so it would be fantastic to see a successor trend. Avatars or titles; either would be great for the community.
Although as a word of caution (and to use the term lightly) the recognition brought upon by having something so unique on here can be tiresome after a while; I still get the odd PM or two about my title. I started by replying proudly with on-the-spot explanations, then the frequency of the PMs started getting silly so I created a copypasta message to send, then I made a Bungie Wiki page for it, linked it in my signature and have had significantly less attention about it. Now I've simply come to terms with any straggler messages about it and just tell folk to read my sig.
So the moral of the story is: if you want to stand out on this site with anything, be it a custom title, the best trust-rating title, Moderator powers, a custom avatar, whatever, then you should be willing to deal with the consequences of that recognition and responsibility. If you have something unique, it means that in some way, shape or form, Bungie has entrusted you with it, so being responsible and respectful regarding it is of utmost importance. To me, anyway. I think it shaped a lot about how I viewed these sorts of privileges a long time ago.
And if I were to ever lose the custom title, it would be for good reason, whatever it may be. As I've said, I wouldn't turn down the position of Moderator; given my current life circumstances (pretty comfortable and stable, yo) I'm confident I would be able to manage the responsibility. That obviously doesn't mean that I'd either ever be approached, nor that anyone else would ask it of me. I may have stated I wouldn't be able to a couple years previously, but 'twas tougher times then in my personal life, plus I was still really childish.
I just like posting my thoughts on stuff, speculating on Bungie's future and helping people out with their questions and problems. If that specifically makes me Moderator material, then I think you could probably just pick a username out of a hat and have it hit the mark just as well. My fancy hat shouldn't give me anymore merit than anyone else for the role.
Just felt I should say my piece on the matter.
But, enough about me (because seriously, I'm not that kewl). There are loads better candidates for it, and probably many of them that you're unaware of, lurking away in groups and being generally level-headed folk. These threads really are just popularity contests, and it's prone to claiming verbose victims like myself :'(
Sidenote: I don't like the severe level of dislike that gets sent around towards individuals on these forums, especially from the comfort of private groups intended for those with supposed high-trust ratings. Obviously nothing to do about it, but it does frustrate me to see the same horse getting kicked about and passed around.
Though I do like the Butters analogy.
tl;dr Meh.
