Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

My mouse is slow to respond when playing Halo. I have an nVidia GeForce 6200 now and I thought that would solve my problem, but it doesn't. The more effects I enable, the more sluggish the mouse gets, to the point I can't aim. Running in "safe mode" improves controls considerably but makes the dull-looking characters hard to see and target. My CPU is an AMD Sempron 3000+ 2Ghz. Is it too slow and causing this mouse lag? I read all the docs and found nothing addressing this problem.

If you look for mouse lag fixes for other games they may work for Halo, also, maybe a complete hard drive wipe, while extreme, may fix whatever issue your mouse is having. It may also be your mouse drivers. My old mouse was so messed it would randomly move the pointer so in game I was pointing to the sky and spinning, Oh the spinning!

Yea I hate it when I'm playing and my mouse suddenly goes completely insane, and it often leads to me being killed. Also, some times I see my mouse pointer move even when there's nobody/thing touching it.

Just turn the effects down. I run an AMD Athlon 2000 XP+ with 512 MB DDR 333 and a GeForce Ti 4600 @ AGP 4x - and my mouse doesn't slow down. I just have to turn th gfx down.

If you have an optical mouse, then a piece of dust or a hair on the optical sensor is what causes the mouse to "go psycho". Don't always believe the statement that optical mice don't need to be cleaned.

Node, does the mouse lag in other games too, or just halo?

Hi, Nick. I only get the problem with Halo. I play Half-Life 2, CS:S, Bloodrayne 2 etc with no control difficulties.

Press CTRL + F12 in a game and reply back with the framerate you're getting.

The framerate averages 70. There's no problem there.

Wow, thanks for no help. More proof that we buy broken software with no support. Long live M$ and Bungie. I -blam!- hate you swindlers.

I know this sounds lame but I often get the spinning problem when I use certain types of mouse mat with optical mice.
If the optical sensor gets 'lost' it defaults to a screen corner and spins, this happens with cheap Dell opticals and proper gaming mice like the Logitech MX518. If you move the mouse very slowly across the mat it will sometimes start accelerating on its own. Easy fix, another mat.

I fixed it by swapping mice with one of the other comps in the house.
