Subject: Flood Protection

As ironic as this may seem, I feel that would should place a (stronger) flood protection on the site, especially the Flood. We have the timer, but I feel as if that is not enough. If you've ever visited 4chan (or many other various forum boards), you might've noticed that the site automatically detects when you are attempting to submit the same / too similar data twice. If this were properly implemented, we could most likely prevent spammers like Cena and the like.

ITT: Discuss whether or not you think this would be an effective spam protection system and/or list some additional ideas.

Quit -blam!- stalking me you weirdo.

I like your idea. 3 or 4 of the same posts that are the same could ban you for a day. That would make sense.

  • 12.10.2011 9:16 PM PDT

Have you seen my mind anywhere? I seem to have lost it...

0x0 x0x 0x0 000 000 x0x 000
x0x 0x0 0x0 0xx 000 0x0 000
x0x x0x x00 0xx 0x0 x0x 0x0

I have seen you future

I like it, if you try to post the same post/url more than three times in a x amount of time you are blocked. Perfect.

  • 12.10.2011 9:18 PM PDT

Exactly. Even the same message.

lol.. how could this stop JohnCena? He could just link JOHNCENAJOHNCENAJOHNCENAJOHNCENA on one post and some other word on the other.

The point of a JohnCena post is that it's a link to meatspin that takes up the full 10k character count. They'd get around it and nothing'd get solved.

Also, blocking users posting the same URL would, again, do nothing. It's laughably easy to change a URL, while still having it go to the same address.

You can detect what URL the mini URLs redirect to.

The URL would be the text. Getting a new URL would give mods the time to ban them too.

He'd have to adjust the words, too. The system could detect if more than x character posts are made within a given timeframe to automatically disable posting for that user, e.g., more than 3 1,000 character posts made in 2-3 minutes. Something like that. If the system were actually considered, we would be able to figure out small things like this.

http://bit.ly
http://tinyurl.com
http://tiny.cc
http://goo.gl

There's no way the mods can ban someone before they click those 4 links and make 4 more original and unused URLs.

Edit: Also, on tiny.cc, it's infinitely easy to make custom URLs. That means the JohnCena only has to use that one and has infinite URLs.

Oh well, they'd all lead to the same site, most likely, which you can prevent. Not to mention they could just implement a list of banned links/sites.

Do you know how many URL shorteners there are? Lots. It's not worth touching the code.

Also, it wouldn't recognize that they go to the same site. That's not how that works.

  • 12.10.2011 10:04 PM PDT

Who the hell do you think I am?

How about we find the people who do the JOHNCENA thing, and kick them in the balls.

  • 12.10.2011 10:08 PM PDT

I'm quite sure it can.
http://bit.ly/2V6CFi and http://goo.gl/fbsS both lead to Google, which a script can detect. Look at Facebook: if I posted (or even just pasted) one of those URLs into my Status Update textfield, it would automatically run a check to see where the URL leads. "Google" would then pop up, despite the fact that the URL is a bit.ly. Gotta love ignorance.

Fair enough. Still not worth touching the code. Do you know how many shock sites they can link to? Lots.

Your idea is impractical at the very least.

It's ignorant and is not going to be implemented.

Ignorance is bliss, eh? You must be a blissful chap.

Meh. It would be better than what we have. I suggest that the Mods are given an option when banning, simply a checkbox: "Shock Site Linker". The banning system would check the post for which the user was banned for any hyperlinks, and add all related links in that post to a Link Blacklist, so to speak. These links would not be allowed to be posted nor redirected to from this site. If there is a mistake, the Link Blacklist could be modified just like the User Blacklist.

It would literally be no different than the current system. A brand new shock site is just a google search away. You can't beat the internet. It's faster than you and always will be.

I see why you would do this and I guess it is okay though I am not sure it would work very well. John Cena attacks are easy enough to avoid anyway.

Case and point: don't worry about it. Girls start getting boobies pretty soon, and then you'll have plenty of other things to think about. Being an Inheritor is not a life goal.

I don't see how it's ignorant if it would work to an extent. As was said, it would be better protection than what we already have. Plus, if the moderators could do it, they could continually increase the list of shock sites that can be linked here.
I'd love just a tinyurl blocker, something to block shortened links. I don't find them necessary on here, and they're mostly used for trouble.

The report button isn't just there because the mods are lazy... only you can prevent forest fires.

'Ignorant' doesn't even make sense used there. Godamn, people are stupid.

popular URL shortening sites should be -Blam!-ed out.

The elder administration would balk at the site of the mere idea of this, however I am certain the top gun is interested in the best for his community.

It might be worth your while to create a list of pros and cons of the suggested program implementation, and if the pros outweigh the cons by, say, eighty percent, go ahead and PM DeeJ your proposition.

But they can sometimes be useful in large OPs, such as the Members List thread. If Bricy runs out of room, he could use tinyURLs to save space (they count as characters).

You're suggesting a system in which we gradually increase a list of links to pictures of GIFs of nude people committing lude acts (or, just, shock sites) and block them, yeah? You might as well just start blocking every site on the internet. It'd be an equally productive feat.

Here, let's start with http://aaaaaa.com/.

  • 12.11.2011 9:54 AM PDT

What the hell are you talking about? My idea: Someone posts link to meatspin.com. Mod bans user for a post with meatspin.com in the post. Meatspin.com is automatically added to the Link Blacklist; anyone that tries to post it is autobanned. Where's the problem, exactly?

You're the only one who claims it would be ineffective, and your argument doesn't even make sense.
