The canon status of I love bees is very debatable to say the least.

1) Replay every game.
2) Read every book in chronological order. (You can skip The Cole Protocol)
3) Familiarize yourself with IRIS/ILOVEBEES
4) Watch/Read Evolutions
5) Spend at least 4 hours on Halo Wiki searching random pages
6) Stop.
7) Think about everything you learned.
8) Now, you are able to participate in the forums and theorize about the halo Universe.

"It's canonical"

It is canon. The book isn't great, but it isn't bad either.

He made data transmission through time possible; we already knew time dialation effected entire ships through mis-used Forerunner technology, how is a stream of data--AI's--in a freak accident that is likely to never happen again traveling through time that hard to believe?

It's just very far fetched to me. Call me crazy, but once you start incorporating hardcore time travel into sci-fi, -blam!- hits the fan. Just my experiences though.
