Excellent, then I wouldn't have to see Cena's crap all the time!

These people can't even add a sent folder for messages, what makes anyone think they could add a feature like this?

The mobile app allows you to read sent messages, so a sent box may be on the way.

If a user's bad to begin with and gets ignored by many users, they'll probably leave and won't back.

As far as the "not growing"....

A forum is like a social network of opinions that form a higher thought process and benefits everyone. If we start cutting the strings of a network, the information starts to move slower (or completely halt as topics die and users log off) as opinion and ideas take longer to get to everyone in the discussion. So if the merging of thoughts never happen, we're all missing out.

It's not going to affect anyone except themselves. If they lose out on the potential discussion because they've ignored someone, that's their problem.

Sure... but keep in mind this is no where as severe as killing. More like 'Should I let the janitor take care of those papers on the floor or just throw them away myself?'.

My interpretation of this..."What's faster...the cops or a handgun?"

A clearer and more thought out message from it's fan base.

What does Bungie get out of us becoming better users?

If anything, we should make the ignore user button only last for around __ months/weeks and then reset itself for a month/week or so, to at least give ignored users a chance.

If you see this post in your topic I'm sorry to tell you but your topic is dying.

I would love to see this. I spent the first couple weeks that I first joined looking for some way of ignoring some annoying individuals.

  • 12.13.2011 12:36 AM PDT

I'm totally in favour of this feature.

There is a certain member of The Flood who spams "Quake 3" in every thread he posts in and I would love to add him to my ignore list.

However - how exactly would this be added?

If 2 forum members were having a discussion, and 1 was on your ignore list - wouldn't half of the discussion be missed out? Have I understood correctly?

I'd rather see a tagging system similar to the way files work for threads before a system to let us exclude stuff.

What if I could search for all threads tagged with Halo, Halo 2, Halo 3, ODST, and Reach, then save that search as "All Halos" and have a saved searches menu to add that to? Or if I wanted to get more specific, threads tagged with Forge or Customs?

If we're talking "signal-to-noise" I'd rather tune the signal before eliminating the noise.

Now maybe on top of that, I could say I want all that stuff tagged with those Halo tags, but I don't want to see stuff tagged with Rank, Trueskill, or MLG because those don't interest me. Sure, that'd be handy too.

I think that'd be more useful than being able to eliminate posts from a certain user, because even if I don't like a particular user's way of participating on the forum, them may still post something that interests me. Tagged appropriately, of course.

Does anyone even read these?

We should just have a vote once a week about a user to block.

First up, spartain ken. If you would like him blocked, say aye.

Next week, tibercunt.

This either relies on authors being honest and bothered enough to correctly tag or on readers being bothered to tag/confirm tags on stuff they read for the benefit of others. Considering the pace of the forums this would be useful in, both are an exercise in futility if you don't want to completely abandon the nature of the forum as a discussion board.

That is, unless you happen to be sitting on a piece of inference software that'd put google to shame.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

mmmmhhhh....

I have an idea, lets NOT persecute users in the commmunity?

This whole attitude towards this "blocking" user thing is just to divide the community, isolate people, and Bad Baller as you have demonstarted to act rude towards other users by threatening to block them for no reason or for violating any of the rules from the code of conduct.

You know, did you consider that maybe saying that kind of stuff hurts my feelings?

But I have another idea too, why don't the mods crack down on rudeness for a while and we will see if more people won't learn to play nice. I know the mods can't nab everyone but Flamming of any kind should not be tolerated.

People just need to learn self control.

Here's a little tip for dealing with me...due to a recent event I have become cold, and an all around asshat. The feelings of others are of no concern to me. I say what I want to say. I just want you to know that there's nothing special about you...everyone nearly gets the treatment. It's nothing personal. This is why I'm so for the ignore feature. What isn't seen can't inflict damage. It's not a sign of ignorance, it's far from it.

Okay, I am mostly concerned that this is not intented to be used against rule breakers but just random people in the community you disagree with. I don't think that is a good use for this feature.

This I like.

Also Ken, it's not just a one-way street, you'd have the same power. You'd be able to ignore those who chose not to exercise their own powers. The idea is to lessen the load on the moderators where as you want to increase it. This isn't a job for them, they shouldn't have to do this 8 - 10 hours a day.

Wait...you like me being an -blam!-?

Despite being an asshat, I still agree with what you said.

"Just as the wave cannot exist for itself, but is ever a part of the heaving surface of the ocean, so must I never live my life for itself, but always in the experience which is going on around me.” - Albert Schweitzer

People should learn to ignore people on their own, without being given an 'option' to do so. It's seriously not that hard.

:)

I <3 you too Bungie

The one hole I see is that ignoring certain users would start to create holes in conversations. Are you saying it would be nice to ignore users in a particular thread? By specific post (hit an ignore post button)? Categorically (mute a person indefinitely)? It just seems like it would be destructive to the whole point of the forum. Isn't this what groups are for? You can cull annoying people there.

Well, then you should be banned.

It says in the rules "play nice, don't be a jerk" AND "respect other users". Your first two sentences show that you aren't capable of either.

This does, however, present an argument in favor of an ignore feature. If I had the option to ignore someone who confessed to being "an asshat", I would without reading any more of their posts.
