"We live in a special time; the only time where we can observationally verify that we live in a very special time" - Lawrence Krauss.
I was a finalist :P
A lot of people have seemed to bring up changed users into the equation, which is extremely accurate. Everyone can change with time, and many do change with time - it's like a mathematical equation. Here's an idea to play with:
Post selector?
After your ignore time has lapsed, a message appears in you inbox with ten randomly chosen posts made by the person you have ignored for the time you have ignored them. You then have the ability to scan the posts and the proceed to continue to ignore the user or choose not to, which will result in you being able to see their posts again. This would be a more convenient approach rather than solely going into a profile and searching manually.
Note: The second idea would flow much more nicely with people collapse post idea (i.e. posts made by the person ignored) so they can readily be seen if the ignorer wants to.
The thing is that, for whatever reason during the ignore phase (off B.net, not noticing every single collapsed post, or even a user not wanting to have anything to do with a user, and not clicking that collapsed post to show their post) the user can change in regards to the ignorers perspective. This simple idea could allow the user to quickly deduce if any change has been made to suit their standards or expectations.
If the ignore idea has an on/off at will feature
A user could also have the capabilities for this to be performed at will. They would head on over to their "ignored users" - or whatever - list, and can click on a "Random Post Selection" button next to the particular user they wish to investigate. The ignorer can select a "from" and "to" date, how many posts they'd like to see, and they would instantly obtain the randomly chosen posts by the ignored user, fitting in with the said parameters. They then can decide to no longer ignore the user.
The thing I like about this idea, is that it allows the user to chose when they want to give the ignored user another chance, be it after one day or one billion days.
