In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

That sounds like a horrible idea. You can't trust people here to self moderate. Throughout this entire thread, people have wanted to punish/ignore people who have done nothing wrong other than they don't like them.

Why should people get warned/banned if some people are like "LOL I hate that guy" or a group of people decide to carpet ignore his or her posts to trigger a warning/ban.

This thread keeps spiraling downward and makes me more and more disappointed in this community. It is bad enough to ignore tons of people you don't agree with but to try and punish people for doing nothing wrong? That is dumb.

These would only be people proven to be well behaved. People with titles based on a lack of bans. This meaning its unlikely to happen anyway.

But, if it does, you probably deserve it because those kinds of people are unlikely to be trolls who'd just report posts for the fun of it.+

The reason I disagreed with it in that thread was becuase people wanted it for personal reasons to silence "certain" forum users becuase they disagree with their ideas.

I like how mods are the only people who can remove content and block users becuase I can see it causing problems.

Ken, that's because everyone would ignore you. For jeebus sake, people have made SCRIPTS just to block you.

I'm all for it.

I am not even talking about me, this is morally wrong why people want this. It went from just ignoring users completely to now we want to ban/punish users we don't agree with even if they have not broke the COC? WOW.

Let me ask you this, how would YOU feel if many people ignored you and you got a warning/ban from a bunch of people who didn't like you/didn't agree with you.

It would be kind of retarded.

I would think that I must be doing something wrong to have this many people have me ignored, and attempt to fix it by acting differently around the people who have not chosen to ignore me.

Whoo.

I'm not sure Ken is the best person to go to when discussing this topic, due to his immense bias. It's similar to asking martians if we should blow up Mars, of course they'd say no, they're martians. (Martians are just a example, obviously they don't exist.)

O_O

On topic: I'm glad to see that Achronos and the Webteam are taking these comments seriously. I've personally been wanting such a feature like this for a long time. Catching up on this thread, there are a few other points I would like to make.

Many other websites have these features. Xbox Live has a block communications feature. Other forums that I visit daily have these features. Facebook has a block feature as well as Twitter. It's usually in a "privacy settings" option and allow you to make a persons post invisible to your view.

As Achronos mentioned about 10 pages ago, it's an added feature. It's like using the Saved Threads option, you don't have to use it. But If you do it makes life easier on Bungie.net. If you are against this idea, just simply don't use it and go on with life. Adding something like this isn't going to detroy the community.

I feel that these features work on said websites because of not only their huge populations, but the function of the website.

Facebook is supposed to be a networking site. The ignore function works here because the abundance of people to network with. This abundance allows for the ignore feature to function without any negative feedback to the user. I don't know how you guys see this site, but the population isn't exactly on par with Facebook. (note: I'm not saying this is a good thing.)

Xbox.com has the ignore user feature but its primary use, in my experience, is for blocking people over xbox live. Once again this is an entirely different medium.

I personally don't care if this were to be implemented. If it's here, okay. If it isn't, okay. I just fear that we'll see a decline of the forums here.

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

Alright, all the heated discussion about how this will effect one or two specific members is threatening to take this topic off that rails. I don't want to lock it because it looks like The Webteam is actually taking this seriously, but I will if we don't all take a step back and gain some perspective. We can discuss this on its own merits, without directing anything negative at other users.

I encourage you all to do that again. This is not a thread about ignoring Ken or anyone else specifically. Let's drop that right now.

I really think we should have a list of all the reasons why to do it and why not to do it.

I still disagree with it in all, but I don't want to join in this conversation to aimlessly juggle the same old problems and ideas over and over again. This needs to be a organised debate, basically.

Yep, that's what I've been saying since page 2-3, if I remember correctly; but this thing has already grown so large and out of hand, it'd be torture to carve out all of the new, interesting or un-brought-up ideas that users have had between all of the mud which is repetitive thoughts.

Yeah, but I don't put my name forth as a candidate for such a strenuous task. I'd rather we just start this whole thing over, with a original poster who is no only willing to, but has the time to organize the thoughts of everyone.
Posted by: ExquisiteDragon
It would probably be worth the trouble.

The original poster is a moderator. Doesn't he have stuff to do?
I agree it's worth it, but to whom takes such honor?
Posted by: ExquisiteDragon
Hell no, it's the OPs' problem...why I say it's worth it is because the staff is actually taking this seriously and not screwing with us with subliminal responses and Urk jokes.

From what I've seen...

Reasons against:

-It would "break" the community due to all of the people ignoring each other. Communication in general would be negatively affected by everyone ignoring people over simple disputes.

-We don't need it. It is not a requirement for us to navigate BNet. We have the ability to ignore people without it.

-It's frivolous.

-People will, very likely, change over time. Due to the permanence of such a feature, people will not know that others have changed their attitude since the occasion of the initial "ignore", and possible GOOD communication is lost.

Reasons for:

-Some people contribute nothing valid to any conversation (in the opinion of the potential "ignorer"), and therefore their posts are not worth viewing.

-Someone is being harassed to a point that it isn't serious enough for the moderation staff to deal with it, but it is consistent enough for it to be a problem for the poster. Ignoring would solve the problem.

-It would make navigating BNet much easier without all of the detritus cluttering up their view and distracting from legitimate and quality posts.

-Nobody's experience except for the experience of the "ignorer" when the ignore button is implemented and "pressed".

-People wouldn't ignore others simply because of a single dispute or the occasional disagreement. They would do it because they legitimately don't value the majority of posts that the "ignoree" makes. Making the reason behind the ignoring legitimate.

If you have anymore that have been mentioned STRICTLY about the feature of ignoring a person FOREVER with the click of a button (whether the posts are GONE or just minimized), please let me know. I'm not going to go into every other idea discussed with reporting, minimizing specific posts, ignoring people for a period of time, etc...

That's all well and dandy....doesn't mean the OP wouldn't want to. However, I cannot speak for him.
