Subject: Would they have oil rigs on other planets in the Halo universe?

I must go now, my planet needs me.

Is it possible for the UNSC to find a habitable planet with oil to drill for?

  • 12.12.2011 8:31 AM PDT

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

If that planet had life on it there SHOULD be Oil becuase Oil is formed from remains of ssea life and plant millions of years old.

We are all going to get banned aren't we?

The UNSc clearly wouldn't need Oil as much but they would still drill for it. I am sure i saw some rigs on the halo reach level "Nightfall".

Cool.
What still runs on oil?

Not sure but they could use it for other means.

Waypoint Moderators aren't really Moderators, just power hungry and its goal is defend their beloved Halo at all costs. (Meaning that they wank Halo too much.)

BS Angel is alleged foe so, be wary of Waypoint and its moderators! Do not attempt to move to Waypoint. Enter your own risk.

*WARNING* IT IS MY OPINION.

Really? Do you think UNSC still uses oil despite that 500 years has been progressed?

Dude. Fusion Technology, hydrogen-electric technology, etc says hi.

*NOTE* Warthog uses hydrogen-electric as fuel.

Anything else we use oil for now other than gas.

I know this, but hydrogen is hard as hell to get are hands on and oil can be burnt.

obviously it isn't hard to get since everything is hydrogen powered.

I'd say oil maybe as heating, but concerning hydrogen... They have water barrels as gas cans :/.

Just put straight water into a warthog and you fill the tank from what I've seen.

Is this the same with the Scorpions? I always noticed that there was a black smog coming out of the tanks... which isn't consistent with something Hydrogen powered.

What do you mean? I've never noticed it bar when the tank is damaged and engine is smoking.

It's pretty obvious in Halo 2, if I'm recalling this correctly.

I'm pretty sure that by 2500, earth's fossil fuel would have already been used up. They don't need oil. Hell, the 2554 M12 warthog models don't even run on oil!

Hydrogen is most common in space, dude. Its in stars, frozen comets, asteroids, planets, etc. Remember, UNSC colonized over 800 worlds, its likely several of them are full of hydrogen.

umm.. It kinda makes sense for them to drill for oil. Why you would think differently is strange, oil is used for creating various plastics and multiple refinery gases that are useful in medicine and other industry.

Good point. It might not be used for vehicle fuel anymore, but there are other uses. And potentially could allow more widespread production, as all the oil/gas are going into those areas instead of being split between fuel and other items.

  • 12.12.2011 1:04 PM PDT

I was under the impression that the UNSC no longer used oil to power their vehicles.

EDIT: Disregard the above. Just read the whole thread.

Yes plastic is still used, so I guess they do drill for it.

By 2500, Humanity probably has gas mines similar to the one in Halo 2. So they could potentially have massive sources of whatever makes up the gas giants they have access to.

Nah, they probably need more oil than ever as seeing it's used to make synthetic products. Plus, Halo is set 500 years into the future, so they probably found new uses for oil.

This was my thinking.
Oil isn't just used for electricity generation. It's a natural resource with many different uses.
