If I am not posting, then I am reading what you might have posted.

So I came in too this discussion with my friend. He said,
"How come you don't use a custom avatar?"

I said,"Because Bungie doesn't trust it's members, they think that a lot of the members will abuse it."?

He said,"Well, Bungie has moderators right? How come they don't have the moderators remove the image? They are just too lazy to do their job."

I said,"Ah...I don't know?"

Like some moderators said,
"I am go on my time, not yours"
But if they are on don't you think that they should have this type of thing to remove such items from the site?

I was also thinking that the avatars should be Bungie related.

I know such things always get abused but with moderators having the power, they could make the site a lot safer, TO THE POWER OF THE MODS!

So, What do you think?

It's faster for the website to load the default avatars and whatever can go wrong will. We want to avoid future problem more then we want to have custom avatars for everyone and avoid problems after they happen.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

I wish I could use my Myth avatar I made, custom avatars would be cool

First off, I think that it is moderating, not moderatoring.

In addition, I also think that you are asking an unreasonable amount of effort to be committed by these volunteers, because that is what the ninjas are. With an extremely high user to staff ratio, keeping everyone's avatar PG 13 would be a large job even if the entire team of ninjas was active, which they are not. I also do not think that anyone would find it appealing to go through all the images that the users of this site deem appropriate for use an avatar, given the variety of "unusual" users on this site.

Expecting them to do this means you have not looked at it from their point of view. Yes, custom avatars would be nice in many ways, but they are unnecessary with the amount of customization already available that distinguishes user.

I know I wouldn't want to be a moderator if I had to sift through threads looking for profane avatars.

Same here. It would be too hard to moderate custom avatars.

Eh, I think I'd stick to my current avatar either way. I prefer avatars to be used as a means of identification rather than something for people to be changing every other day (which I think would happen much more than it currently does as a result of having the freedom of custom avatars).

That said, custom avatars would allow more uniqueness so perhaps it would improve their purpose as a tool of identification, as long as there is some sort of restriction to deter users from changing it all the friggin' time.

One final thing: no gifs. Whilst a bit hypocritical of me considering my coup is animated, I don't like animated avatars as they're often distasteful, distracting, or just plain annoying.

edit: Ha, I realise I've gone off-topic a bit as my post isn't specifically about avatars being moderated, but this is my general opinion on custom avatars.

I don't know, I wouldn't mind doing so. It'd be fun! ^_^

What does the community stand to gain from free for all custom avatars? Where anyone can be somebody and somebody can be anybody? I can see it now.

Where the woman are men.
And where the children are the FBI
.

*cough*

Seriously, many avatars we see today were either once custom or custom made by Bungie or fans for use in the forums. No one would be able to get approval for their custom avatars if we only use the moderators in full capacity to verify the content isn't offensive.

Really? You would enjoy using your Bungie.net time looking through everyone's avatar? I wouldn't think that would be too crazy if there was an efficient reporting tool/system, but it would still be quite a pain.

“Strange,” mused the Director, as they turned away, “strange to think that even in Our Ford’s day most games were played without more apparatus than a ball or two and a few sticks and perhaps a bit of netting. imagine the folly of allowing people to play elaborate games which do nothing whatever to increase consumption.”

Just as well we've all got report buttons, so they can just sit back and wait for the avatars to come to them!

My Screenshots / My Group / Remember to follow the rules or you will get trapped in a box.

The problem is they would get abused extremely.

I think it'd work out better if we just had a different set of moderators special to avatars. The only thing they could do is disable user's avatars for a set period of time same as a ban, three day to a week to a permanent ban on avatar usage.

Basically, I make the best topics ever.

Feedback!
Duardo: This thread is locked for being stupid.
cortana 5 : It's perpetually my time of the month and I'm just grouchy.
Foman: I see absolutely no reason, either theoretical or practical, that this is not a superb idea. Excellent work, my friend.

I don't understand this obsession with custom avatars. I have a custom avatar right now, and everyone has the ability to create one. Just set it to emblem.

Yeah. It would be great! Think that a page of all users should be made with a organizational side scroll. That would help a lot.

Got a question, comment, or concern? PM me.

It would take the site much longer to load because it doesn't have preloaded images.

Or so I am told.

How u get smily faec avatar?

But honestly, i agree with this guy.

Key

That is not the reason we dont have custom avatars. That's the reason you made up in your head. The real reason is Bungie doesn't want to have to deal with hosting them all as well as hosting content they don't own (in picture form).

  • 12.12.2011 2:05 PM PDT

We miss you Logan.
Ask any question. I'll help with anything on site or off.

Well other most of the forums i've been on you can upload your own avatar, except the H.W. I think that the site should let us use our own avatars, but we can't. It's not a feature we need, but it's a feature we would wan't. Why put more work on the moderators?

Subject: Mods,Trust, Avatar, Moderatering.

It only takes a simple question to change everything.

No. Just because mods can ban people that have offensive avatars, doesn't mean that they can do it instantly. People would just create accounts to have people see there offensive avatar. It would take some time for the mods to ban the user. Having custom avatars is just as bad as giving members the ability to post images. Also, the site would run a little slower due to having to load the images. I don't want to have to wait the extra time for us to have custom avatars. I'm perfectly fine with my custom Halo 2 avatar.

I said,"Ah...I don't know?"
"Lazy" is a harsh word and undermines Bungie and the mods.

They don't allow it most likely to avoid the unnecessary risk.
