I was kinda bored one day and decided to compare Halo and Halo 2 to see which one I preferred. I started to play Halo and was instantly hooked. I then started to play Halo 2, but it just didn't seem to have the "magic," so to speak, that Halo 1 gave me. Sure, it has great graphics, but the gameplay, or the story, in my opinion, just didn't cut it. I mean, I play Halo and am immediately glued to the screen. But with Halo 2 I very quickly get bored half-way through the first mission on Cairo.
So what do you prefer, Halo 1 or 2? I would have to say 1. There's just something about it that feels more realistic, it just seems to have more of a punch in it, whereas Halo 2, for me, feels a little thin, a little deflated so to speak.

Sorry if this has already been posted like a million times before.

I'm a BLACKJACKass and proud of it.....
The place to be.....
Ownage.....
The Hax War!.....
Conquerer of Sniper McGee's empire..........

I like them both equally...............

To me, they are just two small pieces in an interesting, eloborate puzzle...................

I like them both. Sometimes I prefer to play Halo, other times I will play Halo 2.

Halo 1 definately, for too many reasons I can mention. Halo 2 Is just good because it's online. If Halo was online, I would play that more.

Halo C/E is the only Halo to me.

Halo was the best...
Halo 2's ok but it simply didn't have that magical tough in it. Halo's music was so sticky I've found myself playing the same levels over and over just to listen to them. The levels were all awesome, and a great, spooky storyline.

In overall:Halo 2 is ok I guess but the original is never beaten, not even by it's own sequel.

It is online. Go to XBConnect.com. Me and my friends still play a couple times a month online.

I like Halo 1 much better. I liked the weapons better, I find them to be much more responsive. I liked the viewing aspect....me and my friend can play split screen all day long, but on Halo 2 everything is a little more zoomed in, so you can't see as much of the map. Plus it creates problems when you are close to someone as you can lose where you are very easy...AKA when you melee. Speaking of melee. The melee with Halo 2 seems as inconsistant as the weapons. Sometimes it connects, sometimes it doesn't.

But, for me the biggest problem is not being able to play what I want to play. In Halo 2 we have playlists. And, it seems Bungie has a bad sense of humor when it comes to setting up playlists. In Halo CE you can pick any map you want, with almost any settings. To be forced to play it how the people at Bungie likes to play it sucks. They have IMHO a very warped sense of gameplay. They may be able to make a good game, but they have an odd way of wanting to play it.

While I do agree with blackjack in the fact that they are pieces of a much larger puzzle and all, but I'm sorta leanin' towards Halo:CE because in Halo 2 I actually have a plan as to how to beat each mission, which is to say that the game is to scripted. While it is nice to throw in a few scripted moments in a game to add to the immersion factor, but there has to be a cutoff point. In the original Halo, no matter how many times you play a level you're almost always forced to switch up your tactics somehow. Don't get me wrong, I love Halo 2, but I love Halo 1 more. You can think of Halo 2 as the other woman, so to speak.

Carrots.

Is Halo: Combat Evolved better than Halo 2, the answer is simply, maybe .
It all depends on what you like better, I like the action and weapons, and the in-game cutscenes in Halo: Combat Evolved more, but I like the story, graphics, and music better in halo 2.

Yeah. I think the character models look a lot better in Halo 2. The Covenant, mostly. I could probably live with the Chief's Mark V, was it? And the music goes double for Halo 2.
I have to say this clear.
Some people are severely disappointed with the story of Halo 2. I personally think it's a very good story addition-- except, not for a video game . I guess there's a fine line. And maybe the ads and word around the media told people it was the fight to save Earth. It totally wasn't to save Earth. Maybe for 3 levels. Sure, there's a plot twist about the Prophet jumping the gun, and you having to set your own conclusions on why at the end of a cliff-hanger. Damn, now that I think back, it's a very intricate story. There was just detail enough for people who are in to story, story. Not your average gamer who understands the bare minimum. But definitely not for people who were expecting this to be a grand finale to a chaotic battle for Earth. Like the E3 Demo had shown, or the Announcement trailer had shown, and the artwork released.

But Halo: CE's story was easier for players to get into.

But that's just what I think. Halo 2 is deeper than it looks. It took me a few times to look over what happen to piece everything together. But the way it was executed didn't leave me wanting more the first time I played. When everyone else had beaten it in the first week or so, I was still on Regret.

It's a matter of opinion, thus can't be decided by a collective.

dude, this is a Halo1 forum...of course the majority of the people will vote Halo1!

and to your question, i chose halo1 (PC version of course, i hate the xbox version), only because in halo2 live, there are so many non-fair players, but in halo1pc, there is a few, but less than in halo2.
