I look at it this way: if it's in the game I might as well partake in the barbie dress-up. Do I find it fun? No. Do I get joy out of it? No. But when I'm high as -blam!- customizing my armor gives me something to do between games.
If I were running a studio like Bungie, armor customization would have been red lined almost immediately. There are much more important aspects in a games development that deserve much more attention than barbie dress-up *cough* more default maps *cough* (or how bout even just better default maps).
The fact that Bungie spent so much time, effort, and resources to create the "Armory" with its numerous options is a great example of what's wrong with Reach. They became distracted with pointless fluff and forgot to focus on what actually makes the Halo experience great - the story, environments (maps), and gameplay.
