Get ya popcorn and eat the thickest dick if you think I would waste time lyin to any of u.

In the past week this forum has been filled with new feature ideas, title and avatar ideas, private group ideas, etc. I figured now would be a good time to propose another idea that I first saw over on the http://www.absolutepunk.net forums.

The forums here are extremely fast during peak times and especially when Bungie releases a new game. The Flood and Reach forums get heavy traffic almost every day, and many times I find myself in the middle of a conversation only to be ignored or forgotten. The "you've been quoted" notification would be placed next to the inbox envelope, like so (ignore the horrendous MS paint job, you get the point), and would lessen the occurrence of these types of situations.

Every time your post gets quoted and submitted (in other words, someone responds to something you say), a notification is added under your username with a link to the thread, preferably to the post. I'm not sure how this would work on the web team's side, but that way would be the most user friendly.

Thoughts?

Like many feature ideas we've been getting, I'm indifferent to this.

Edit: You chose a bad time to post a new topic. :D

I'll have to say no. Reason is because I would get to many when I become active again.

I'm not 100% on this but I believe it's difficult to be quoted when you aren't active.

I'd also like to add that the feature should have an on/off switch per user. If you don't want to use it, you don't need to.

If you're talking about going to sleep at night after making a post, think about how many people are going to quote you. Honestly, the most I see (with the exception of the gold-text gods) is 3-4 for a good post that encourages a response.

Whether or not the system would alert you about a quote within a quote (user A quotes user 2, then user III quotes user A who quoted user 2. User 2 would receive one or two alert(s)) is something I haven't made up my mind about, but hopefully is discussed in this thread.

This forum doesn't move very fast, I think I'll be ok.

Basically, I make the best topics ever.

Feedback!
Duardo: This thread is locked for being stupid.
cortana 5 : It's perpetually my time of the month and I'm just grouchy.
Foman: I see absolutely no reason, either theoretical or practical, that this is not a superb idea. Excellent work, my friend.

This idea has actually been proposed before and I'm all for it. I can't keep track of all the topics I've posted in and this would definitely help.

I actually really like this idea. Often times I want to reply to those who have quoted me, so I'm all for this idea!

I hope they go through with this.

By the way: you can already check who quoted you with this. Just trade [user name here] with your user name.

I could also check back to every thread I post in to see if someone quoted me, or leave each one open on a separate tab and take turns refreshing them, but this idea is about simplicity.

Let's not pretend like anyone actually uses the search bar for that purpose.

Yax is a shining beacon in these dark times. You should all strive to be more like Yax.

Keeping track of your own posts (and checking up on them for replies) in this forum isn't so bad but it's very difficult in The Flood. I always forget and lose track of discussion, therefore missing out.

So as always, yes this is a good idea, blah blah, I wish it were implemented, blah.

Excellent point, but have you considered blah; blah blah?

^Good idea though, it makes more sense that what I currently do - which is to save threads and then try to remember what page i posted on when i check it later..

I know it's about simplicity and I'm not pretending for anything. I only posted that we should keep in mind that this wouldn't be the only way to know who quoted you for future reference.
Posted by: Ryno3 I wasn't criticizing your idea with a search that doesn't even show the most recent post first.

Is Izak609 aware of that?

*stares blatantly at a wall* *slightly drools* Huh!? What?

Gotcha. I don't think I'll ever be using that method.

I wear the cheese, it does not wear me.

This account is now retired due to WLID changing. Webteam needs to fix that, seriously >.>

A lot of threads would never ever die if people get into a habit of quoting each other which brings people back to the thread and it'll eventually reach a point where hundreds of threads are being juggled around constantly. And I think I'd get bored if the flood had the same threads popping up and down on the front page.

I already find the common threads (thing to your right, girls, etc...) and rarely changing top topics tiresome.

A... Hmm, not so much easier, just more convenient way to track recent/interesting threads would be nice but it should be something more short term to prevent forum stagnation. Maybe the top forum tops box on the right could be pushed further down and another similar box containing your ten most recently posted in threads and a little info on their activity (# of new posts since your last post? Maybe a special mark if you've been quoted since?) could be added instead?

And when a thread you have a lot of interest in falls out of the list you can always go diving in your profiles recent posts or your saved threads. Maybe the saved threads page could also contain the stuff I mentioned before in the brackets...

Dead Mans Hand-Always Loaded.

I WAS SOCK

As I've said every other time this idea has been presented, I'd love to see this happen.

  • 12.13.2011 2:31 AM PDT

We believe that the universe is unbounded: this is not the same as infinite: the 2-D surface of a sphere, wrapped around a 3rd dimension, has a finite size, but has no end. If you start off in a given direction on the surface of a sphere, you could return to your start point without having to turn around -- you simply go all the way around. But wouldn't that mean the universe has an escape velocity like the earth?

Another reason for moderators to cringe when they get quoted at least 4 times per thread.

Didact's Reprisal -
Now is the time of our unworlding
One final effort is all that remains
And I am not afraid
We shall fulfill our promise
We fight for the grace of the Mantle
And this time none of you will be left behind

I prefer to check my last forum posts to see if I've been quoted. That way I may be at least tempted to keep on contributing to the conversations even if I'm not quoted.

Seriously though.... I am indifferent.

"You build on failure. You use it as a stepping stone. Close the door on the past. You don't try to forget the mistakes, but you don't dwell on it. You don't let it have any of your energy, or any of your time, or any of your space." -Johnny Cash

This has been brought up a lot of times in the past, and I agree with it. I don't doubt that something like this has been considered by the webteam though, so I'm sure if it's not in the next website update it won't be happening anytime soon.
