Gaming Rig Specs:
Coolermaster HAF X // XFX Pro 850W XXX PSU // Corsair 16GB Vengeance RAM (1600MHz) //
Corsair 120GB Force GT SSD // Western Digital Caviar Green 2TB HDD // Intel i7 3770k CPU //
MSI Z77A-GD65 Mainboard // MSI GTX 680 Twin Frozr III OC Edition Graphics Card -- Runs BF3 on ultra at anywhere from 60FPS to 130+FPS.

I see no use in the strikeout format. Most people just write half the word/sentence then hyphenate the end to make it appear cut-off. For example:

I really hat- I mean, I really love those strikeouts.

Do you do that as an edit or initial post?
Initial post.

Granted, very few people actually do it, but I find myself using that method from time to time. I think the strikeout lacks the importance of bold, italic and underlined text, all of which can be used to create headings, new paragraphs, emphasis on a point, and clarity in the formatting. Strikeouts just make it hard to read and are a somewhat pointless feature in formatting, in my opinion.

Of course, others may disagree.

I spend too much time here.. too much time indeed.

I tweet?

I've only ever really seen the strikeout used to joke in much the fashion that Dropship dude described, which of course can be just as well executed by hyphenating.

I mean I'm not against it, but I'm not for it either. It's one of those "Eh, whatever" things.

"You build on failure. You use it as a stepping stone. Close the door on the past. You don't try to forget the mistakes, but you don't dwell on it. You don't let it have any of your energy, or any of your time, or any of your space." -Johnny Cash

I don't really see it as a needed feature, but I guess some people would like to use it for groups and what not.
