Subject: When do you report a post?

Poll: When do you report a post?  [closed]
The moment it breaks even the slightest rule!:  21%
(10 Votes)
Only if it's offensive or spammy.:  60%
(29 Votes)
Only for posts I find to be extremly offensive.:  19%
(9 Votes)
Total Votes: 48

I find myself personally, I only report if it's very offensive, because in my experience half the time people (myself included) forget something is against the rules to begin with.

Whats your opinion?

I suspect the report feature is most affective when the judgement is left to the moderating team. Not reporting something that breaks a rule means it has less chance of ever showing up on their radar.

I report liberally, wherever I see fit, and let the moderators sort out the rest.

Trying something once will increace your chances of success, because you tried it. Try someting twice, and your chances increase yet again - seeing as you've done it. Try something a few thousand times, and your chances of success is exponentially increased; this increase would likely provide success every time

Sounds about right.

I just report a post if it breaks the forum rules.

Pretty much this. I figure that since it takes multiple people to deem something as rule-breaking, I report anything and everything that I personally would not like to see on these forums. If other people agree with me and also report it, cool beans, if not then no worries.

I only report shock site spam, or if something is disgustingly offensive.

Before I report I ask myself how likely is the reported post or thread to be acted upon. Also I am trying to never report anything from this point on.

Why would you consider the likelihood of the an action occurring, rather than whether the post in question is against the rules? Surely whether or not a post is against the rules should be the main consideration in deciding what to report (although how 'bad' the post is could also influence your decision)? If I notice a post that is against the rules, I report it, and if it's within the rules, I leave it.

Ha, sucks to be you!

I only report when it is apparent the OP's IQ is below 60. Or when it's spam. But then i usually send a message to a mod, because the report system takes to long and it allows the spam thread to grow.

I spend too much time here.. too much time indeed.

I tweet?

There isn't a post on these forums I haven't reported, including my own.

Jack of all trades, master of none.

The real question is, when do you report yourself?

I would say report it if it bothers you. So if something is minor and you have no trouble ignoring it, then it's entirely up to you.

Don't worry about [moderators'] inconvenience. As long as you aren't reporting people just becasue you don't like them instead of breaking a rule, you'll be fine.

I'm an Anarchist. I don't need a government to be a good person, but I'm glad it's here because some of you clearly do.

I report when it's not a mistake, but an offense.

I <3 you too Bungie

I pretty much report any post that annoys me and breaks rules. If it simply annoys me I'll just ignore it. I have some tolerance for stupidity, but not much for willful aggravation.

  • 12.13.2011 12:55 PM PDT

I rarely use the report feature. You can be banned for abusing it, so I only use it for shock site links and other glaring offenses.

In general, PMing the mods is a waste of effort. It has worked before, but you have to figure out which mod is on, then link them the thread, etc. And scam or shock site links usually get reported anyways, so what's the point of sending a PM for those? For me, the best thing to do for rulebreakers is ignore them and hope for the best.
