13.72 billion years in the making.

On December 1st, 2012, I met Neil deGrasse Tyson. I shook the man's hand, and even made him laugh. Not much else to do with my life now.

The word is used probably 99.9% of the time to insult someone.

You'd be surprised.

They don't block certain words with the profanity filter to keep the site clean. They block them so that you are forced to be more creative.

For instance, instead of:
"Whatever, -blam!-!"

You say:
"Whatever, you old French bundle of sticks or twigs!"

  • 12.13.2011 6:09 PM PDT

"So- So this means Im just going to be miserable for the rest of time?!"

"No. This means that you have to live life to the fullest. You have one life, live it well. Make sure you die without regrets. Get a new life, new mate, new family. You, out of all people, don't deserve a terrible fate of misery like that. Having nothing to look forward to is good. It makes sure you want to keep on going. Living is a right, not a privilege."

I know, but they aren't using it to insult, they are using it to classify them. We would say -blam!--blam!-, but its blocked, so we are forced to say homosensual, which makes no sense. Even -blam!- is blocked. We have nothing!

A lot of blammed! words aren't bad words, but they are words which are easily/commonly used in a simply derogatory sense.

prozeyic

Then just say homo-blam!-.

What if this person's name is -blam!-?

Which does not necessarily reflect his -blam!- orientation.

Glory and fame, blood is our name!
Souls full of thunder, hearts of steel!
Killers of men, a warrior's friend!
Sworn to avenge our fallen brothers!
Sons of the gods, today we shall die.
Open Valhalla's door!
Let the battle begin, with swords in the wind! Hail Gods of War!

Bungie will claim that it's due to an outdated filter system Microsoft uses. However, I don't see why they have to stick to MS's rules, since they split. I mean, MS did get Master Chief in the divorce, so I think Bungie should get an updated filter.

It's not that the words are evil or bad in every sense of the definition. It is just that the words are used to insult people constantly.

Yes, it's possible that some people can have a mature dicussion involving the term, but it being not censored is a little iffy.

Better to censor it than having more people running around insulting each other, while far less try to have an actual conversation.

OP - You're a dumbass with the reading comprehension skills of a second grader.

Can someone tell me what's wrong with these two, this made me LOL hard.

If it can be used in a derogatory fashion, it is profanity.

So then is "screw you" profanity? What about "damn," or "darn?"
"Damn" seems outdated, like early 900's outdated when someone would use it for a religious insult. "Darn"... I say that when I don't succeed in something. "Screw you"... Well, if it's a guy saying it, then I say no thanks. If it's a girl, I ask why.

Some words aren't meant to be used in a derogatory fashion (e.g. Screw, Darn, Damn [Mehh on this one], etc.). But obvious ones like the one being asked is most likely used in insulting someone rather than saying someone is "happy".

The short answer is because Bungie put it there.

Some words aren't meant to be used in a derogatory fashion.

But does that really matter? The very word we're discussing has meant many things over the years, and wasn't intended to be a derogatory term when it first debuted or w/e words do. Is it about the word itself, or the intent, or someone sort of combination of the two?
The intent of it.

No words are derogatory as it itself, but by the way a person uses it. Just look at the racist term for Asian: It's meant to be a dent in some type of metal, but over the years, it's been used as a tool for racism.

The word itself implied in the OP was probably meant for one thing, but as years passed, it was used more or demeaning a person or persons.

Words are just words. They don't do harm by themselves, but in the hands of the right person, a word can be used as a weapon.

Outdated use of the word though.

READ IT.

I won the Star. With this on Week 18.

Because, people do use it as profanity!

It might of originally meant "happy" but now it's used as an insult because English is a screwed up language!

Ehem, anyways...

No it's not. It's not outdated, is just warped by idiots with low IQs.

If anyone is offended by that, get over it. It's the truth, people use "wicked" as a expression of saying "That is awesome!" Most likely the same kind of people used the "g" word for the "non-hetero" people.

I don't see why they have to stick to MS's rules, since they split.

Probably not so much in the fact that they are abiding to MS' rules more than that there would not be much reason to do one right now due to other projects and possible future updates to the site/forums.

Cause it would be used to often to insult -blam!-s, and that's not what "Bungie.net" is for. It's not just "-blam!-s" it goes for calling women -blam!-s, and calling others trans-blam!-s.

Any form of saying a word like those, if you can tell through the many "-blams!-" is filtered out.

Bungie.net isn't for discussions about Same Sex Marriages/relationships/thoughts. Not in ANY forum on here.

That's more than likely why it is blocked out by the filter, is cause when ever a topic about that sort of stuff comes up, its just insulting people that are that way.

Since we're on the subject, there's no reason N@zi needs to be filtered. Who's going to be offended?
O_o... Umm... the Jews? Perhaps?

For all you people that are saying it's filtered because it can be used in a derogatory manner: there are thousands of words that are not filtered that can be used in a derogatory way.

Conversely, wouldn't the -blam!-'s be offended by the word Jew?
