For all you people that are saying it's filtered because it can be used in a derogatory manner: there are thousands of words that are not filtered that can be used in a derogatory way.

Since we're on the subject, there's no reason N@zi needs to be filtered. Who's going to be offended?
O_o... Umm... the Jews? Perhaps?
Conversely, wouldn't the -blam!-'s be offended by the word Jew?
Well boo hoo, time for them to learn a little tolerance.
Conversely, isn't it time for the Jews to learn a little tolerance?

Conversely is my word of the day.

@Helveck

Just an Average Joe...

I love having a -blam!- old time just sitting by the fire, sipping on a cup of tea whilst reading my favorite novel. The -blam!-ness I experience from this form of relaxation is simply exhilarating.

I must say, reading about your excellent form of relaxation has left me feeling rather -blam!- myself. I think I might try to spread this -blam!-ness to other males, in hope that they too will experience these -blam!- feelings.

[*Please note that anything in my posts is likely to be filled with sarcasm, and should be taken with a pinch of salt. I tend to help people, usually*]

Ask yourself:

How often do you use the word?
What context would you be using it in?
What does one's attraction-preferences have to do with an online gaming forum?
How many times do you hear that word being used negatively?

After asking yourself these questions, you'll answer your own quite quickly.

That's right. I just dropped some AOL IM protocol.

Banning words is like expelling students for having Tylenol. It requires no thought and doesn't allow for legitimate usage.
Flaming is already bannable. Just enforce that.

So people couldn't use it in a derogatory manner to offend anyone.
There was a huge discussion about this a few months ago. Pretty much everyone agrees that it should be censored.

This.

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

There are hundreds of way to legally bypass the filter for that word. There really isnt a problem that that word in particular is blocked when there are hundreds of other ways to say the same thing.

Whilst reading this -blam!- discourse, I did begin to feel rather -blam!- myself. I think that all members of this forum should be able to experience the same level of -blam!-ness that I have. I feel that if this were to happen, the world would be a -blam!-er place in general.

It also means happy.
Outdated use of the word though.

No it's not. It's not outdated, is just warped by idiots with low IQs.

If anyone is offended by that, get over it. It's the truth, people use "wicked" as a expression of saying "That is awesome!" Most likely the same kind of people used the "g" word for the "non-hetero" people.
The only time I hear the use of that word for "happy" is in Christmas carols, and that's just one carol. Otherwise, I hear it being used as an insult.

Because it would be used as a derogatory term. And that's not nice.
So are "bastard" and "whore," yet they're not censored.
Have you ever seen either of those words used on this site?

I personally find it a irratating inconvenience when discussing certain topics, but there is definitly justified reasoning for having the word(s) -blammed!-.

The "profanity" filter was created when the site was powered by vacuum tubes. Hardly any of it is explicable. That said, most of it falls under the someone-used-the-word-to-be-a-jerk-to-someone-else category.

Everything is interesting if you go into it deeply enough.

I'd like to see a few words fixed or removed. I hope they do it with the next site update. I'm b-blam!- with excitement. <_<

Yeah, the -blam!- filter does seem to be a bit quirky at times. I don't understand why the example you just provided can't work like "-blam!- and analogy" does, where it's not filtered when it's within a word.

Oh well, the English language has enough words in it where you can always find a way around that sort of thing via synonyms anyway.

Ask Yourself:

Why do you kiss up so much to Bungie?

OT: I use the word a lot, because a lot of people I know on this site are G-words. I use it in the context to describe them. Calling someone a g-word when they are a g-word is hardly insulting. There's that 'gaming forum' argument again, that's like the most retarded argument I've ever seen. I guess we should just ban all discussion that doesn't pertain to Halo or whatever Bungie's next game is. I hear that word being used negatively a lot, but I also hear a thousand other words being used negatively.

I answered all your questions, and in conclusion, you still kiss up to bungie and provided a weak argument.

What are your thoughts on mods banning people for bypassing the filter to say words that aren't profane in a non-profane context? What if, for example, I wanted to discuss my -blam!- zombie killing tactics if the Flood? Or the adventures of the pilots of the Fanless -blam!-?

I don't think ghey zombies need special killing tactics, they usually have the same traits as regular old zombies and unless you're planning to commit hate crimes towards the undead (which, obviously, would not be ok) then I'm not entirely sure why you would be discussing that topic.

Call them by the politically correct term:

Homo-blam!-.

Oh wait haha the "s" word meaning intercourse is banned as well.
