*People, please refrain your ignorance from showing. Look at the link at the bottom if you don't know what LGBT is.*

I need to ask a question specifically to the moderators: Why don't you ban LGBT threads? They don't achieve anything, they make people mad, they throw insults, they create hatred, and they simply do no good to anyone. (inb4most-threads-here-don't-do-any-good). I have literally never seen a single LGBT thread that made it to the Bungie forum archives (ie becomes inactive). They always get locked because, the immature people that most of us are, can't handle a deep discussion. Someone tries to express their opinions about this, and flames start to simmer. So post your thoughts and leave a vote.

(Is this better evilcam?)

OKAY. For those who don't know what LGBT is. (I can't spell it out because of the profanity filters)

Do those threads really happen that much? Are they really that bad?

Either way, having a rule for it won't help. The rule would give people an idea for a thread and spam up the rules.

Moderators are smart, it's why they have that shiny title, they can figure out if a topic should or shouldn't be allowed with common sense and good judgement.

Case and point: don't worry about it. Girls start getting boobies pretty soon, and then you'll have plenty of other things to think about. Being an Inheritor is not a life goal.

I agree, but they won't do it. That said, I don't see the point against religious or political threads either if the outcomes are generally the same.
It just seems rather hypocritical.

I feel as though I'm missing something obvious. What does LGBT stand for?

Well, here we are. I guess that it was destined to come to this.

The subject isn't explicitly prohibited. So the topic doesn't get closed automatically like other topics that are specifically not allowed (piracy, religion, politics, law breaking, etc.)

But disruption, flaming, namecalling and other rule violations are prohibited.

So, the topics get closed eventually. Not for the subject matter, but for the fact (as you point out) that members can't play nice. But they do not get locked because of the topic/subject itself.

If you were to make a list of "things that the members of this site cannot reliably discuss in a calm, rational and civil manner", you'd probably end up with a long list, each line of which may also have some notable exceptions where the conversation lasted a decent amount of time before it devolved into adolescent shouting.

I agree. Mainly for the fact that I don't think that -blam!-ity needs to be discussed at all. I shouldn't be able to know anyone's orientation on this site.

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

No, I don't think that discussion should be abolished. Its not solely about opinion like religion or politics (though its true most of the "do you accept" threads are essentially just opinions) , and it can be discussed in a civil manner without immediately falling into a flame war.

That said, IMO I'd rather the Flood didn't make them. That doesn't mean I'm for or against, I'd just rather The Flood left those discussions to more serious venues. I'd also rather not give vigorous soap boxers on both sides the ability to rant about it anymore. That though, is completely separate from taking away the ability to discuss it.

Basically what cam said. They're okay sometimes, and much of the Flood is able to handle them, but there's some Floodians that just can't manage to discuss the topic in a mature manner. Other than that, I actually encourage the topic; it's controversial and interesting to debate, and many discussions that result can be rather impressive.

It doesn't bother me either way but I think the line should drawn between news worthy lgbt issues and personnel lgbt identity.

It's rare that LGBT threads are meant to be serious, for the most part they are created to troll people. I have nothing against that group, but those threads should likely become bannable material unless they are made with good reason. For the most part though, there's no real reason to discuss people's -blam!- preferrences as it will inevitably lead to trolling/flaming/bans.
