After numerous attempts to make forge cities, one of which was actually decent and I may post on FS soon, I've figured something out.
With the forge objects available, it's impossible to make a GOOD city map with multiple different buildings you can go into. Staircases, windows, doors, and other features which actually require the abscence of surface to be made use too many blocks. I have figured out, however, that you can make a city map in the following way:
Instead of multiple small-medium sized buildings, make one or at most two large buildings. You can make the whole map around your central large building(s) and to make it feel like a city simply create fake buildings, aka facades, as explained in one episode by TheHaloForgeEpidemic on Youtube.
The trick is not to have a plan, but instead to be conscious of your block and wall limit, and after placing down large but neccessary objects, build around them. It's hard to explain perfectly, but if you need I can explain it in more detail. Also, one thing I like to do is build near cliff faces, using them as one side of the map so you don't need to use pieces on a wall. In this way, if you do it right, you can make it feel like a city without running out of blocks. Just try it, you'll see. When I'm done with the city map I'm working on I'll post it and you can see how it works in action.
