Subject: The secret to making cities.

After numerous attempts to make forge cities, one of which was actually decent and I may post on FS soon, I've figured something out.

With the forge objects available, it's impossible to make a GOOD city map with multiple different buildings you can go into. Staircases, windows, doors, and other features which actually require the abscence of surface to be made use too many blocks. I have figured out, however, that you can make a city map in the following way:

Instead of multiple small-medium sized buildings, make one or at most two large buildings. You can make the whole map around your central large building(s) and to make it feel like a city simply create fake buildings, aka facades, as explained in one episode by TheHaloForgeEpidemic on Youtube.

The trick is not to have a plan, but instead to be conscious of your block and wall limit, and after placing down large but neccessary objects, build around them. It's hard to explain perfectly, but if you need I can explain it in more detail. Also, one thing I like to do is build near cliff faces, using them as one side of the map so you don't need to use pieces on a wall. In this way, if you do it right, you can make it feel like a city without running out of blocks. Just try it, you'll see. When I'm done with the city map I'm working on I'll post it and you can see how it works in action.

Please don't hype for games...
They'll just fall short of your expectations and you'll complain for months.

What I don't like about that method is it destroys the "city" feel, in my opinion. I always think of city maps as patrolling the streets and having the fights occur in the street instead of the buildings. I treat entering more as an extra rather than a necessity.

It doesn't though, that's what I've found. You can manipulate the building shape to make it look like multiple buildings from the outside. Also, adding key scenery pieces helps. Message me over live and I can show you the map Im working on and the best city map I've ever made. You can see which suits you better. One thing I love doing is building tower cranes, portable trailers, etc. to give a building the feel of a construction site which also allows you to purposefully skimp on blocks and such.

Can I have a pursuit warthog? (red&blue flashing lights, siren, black and white paint job, gull-wing doors, no turret but a truckbed cap where the turret assembly should be, and the ability to arrest players :)

A police falcon would be great as well... (Black&white paint job, flashing red & blue lights on the wing struts and tail, no turrets and doors that open and close similar to the republic gunships in Star Wars. Kick... Ass.)

Police pelican would be cool too!!!

Dude, send me a friend request, I'll show you the cities that I've built, specifically for cops and robbers, but modular enough for it to adapt to whatever gametype you want.
