Subject: Notification Feature

Due to the fact that one of the most important rules on Bungie.net is to make threads that will provoke discussion, I feel that it not only would be beneficial but would be a revolutionary addition to have a notification system added.

The system would be set up so that you could choose what and when you would receive notifications.

For example some different scenarios for receiving notifications the you would be able to choose from could include:

- Being quoted by another member in a post
- Someone replying to your thread
- Someone replying to a saved thread
- Someone joining your private group
- Receiving a private message

Having a notification system to alert you of these things would not only provoke discussion among members but it would enrich the quality of the discussion. Many times on Bungie.net forums I will either post or reply to a thread and want to keep in the discussion. However it is quite easy to be distracted and either lose or forget about the thread you were posting in. Sometime I will find them again and by the time I am able to reply, the other person has already left, or maybe even forgotten it as well. With a Notification system this would be prevented form happening.

Also it would be nice to have it set up to receive the notifications in several different ways:

- On Bungie.net
- Bungie mobile app
- Text message
- E-Mail

With capabilities to be notified in different mediums of communication, it will keep people coming back and fueling high quality on topic discussions.

For those people that would like to not receive notifications would simply just have to uncheck a couple of boxes in the settings panel.

I know a system like is asking a lot of Bungie, so that is why it is just a suggestion.

What do you guys think about an idea of this kind? What features would you add or remove to improve it?

Pro's:It sound like it could be very useful in knowing what's going on.
Cons:It reminds me of social networks.
Overall:I don't like it at all. :D

Seriously: It sounds like it'd be interesting to have and nice in the case that you don't keep up to date on the forums, but it's honestly very unnecessary and might redirect the flow of discussion into smaller and more focused yet separate networks of conversation.

In the end, it's just another feature and we can agree that simplicity is key.

Is there anything wrong with that? Bungie.net is a very social-oriented website.

I have been dying for a Bungie.net notifications system for a long time as well. It would be fantastic. My complaints and desires are the same as yours, poster.

I apologize, I did not intend to steel your idea.

I searched notifications in the search bad and nothing turned up.

Yeah, because checking through every single page of every single thread from where you've posted to see if anyone responded to you is "simple".

I like to reply to any post that I have something to say to. Why only spend your time on the people who quoted you?

Who said you have to put all your eggs in one basket?

You don't have to spend all or even the majority of your time responding to those who have quoted you. However, it would be nice to know if someone did quote you, so at least then you have an opportunity to respond if you would like to.

Not sure how Daza's post actually managed to go over your head.

The whole point of forums is discussion. If you are popping in threads, leaving a reply, and then never coming back to check for responses, you're only doing it half right. The reason we come back to check if people have quoted us is to see what they had to say and possibly reply back to them. You know, like what you did then when you re-checked the thread, saw Daza had quoted you, and responded.

Now why wouldn't we want to make this fundamental part of forums easier to achieve with something like a notification system? Oh, right, because it "reminds [you] of social networks".

Who needs valid reasons when you can just say "FACEBOOK DID IT!", right?

OP - You're a dumbass with the reading comprehension skills of a second grader.

Can someone tell me what's wrong with these two, this made me LOL hard.

Pros
Convenient.

Cons
My email will go from around 50 emails of no spam to about 10,000+ of spam.

My texting bill would shoot through the roof.

I don't have a mobile app anymore since I let my iTouch die.

Seems more like a social networking thing rather than a forum thing.

Huh? Oh, sorry if I wrote that response confusingly. I wasn't saying the quote notification idea was bad. I've been showing (or at least attempting to) a indifference to it, if I thought it was bad, I'd be criticizing it instead of saying that it wouldn't help me as much.

Are you trying to make this personal or something, Yax? The post talking about social networks as a con was a complete joke.

I'm just telling you that I think it wouldn't matter nearly as much to me. I'd like to say that I know I've read every post that quotes me *chuckles* but I can't tell you "if a tree falls...".

UNSC Leviathan

I would like to be notified on some things. No need to come on bungie.net and see thousands of notifications. Maybe being able to customize how you receive notifications would be nice.

I would pick private groups, quotes, and whenever someone said my username.

That treasure doesn't include my avatar, you copycat.

No, it's a forum. Forums aren't social networks. They're networks for discussion. Bnet has a lot of Community interactive elements to it, but I wouldn't say that it's a social network. I know zilch about you, and isn't that the defining part of a social network? The information?

I think it is common knowledge that this site is more than a mere community forum and probably its ambitions rely into offering more tools for the social activities of the community.

Ask any question. I'll help with anything on site or off.

I'd say no because what if we make a hot topic, with over 100 post. Maybe, the private group one wold work.
