i would be fun to have a Devil and Angel on the Dhief's shoulders.
"Arby isn't looking! Blow him away with the Shotgun!"
"No, No, No, that won't do at all. He is bettering his life now."
"At least step on the Grunt! Nobody will notice! And we both know you want to."

OOOOO! Spooky. That would be cool to have an angel and devil on his shoulders.

Devil: Hey poke that mark on the back of Lord Hood's head.
Angel: No that is improper. And you may hurt him in some way.
Devil: Oh come on! Please?!? Well at least punch Johnson in the face! I mean the Arboter did! Lucky devil!

Is Cortana as supportive as she seems?

I seem to recall from the novels (don't have them handy to verify) that she actually could take over the Mjolnir armor if she and the Chief were at odds.

I also seem to recall that before she was paired up with the MC that Cortana had a conversation with Dr. Halsey that showed she was willing and able to allow the MC to die if it was a choice between him and the success of "the mission". The actual mission and goals were never clearly stated.

There are some who think that Cortana could easily have her own agenda. Who knows what lurks in the pathways of a artificial personality construct? I'm not sure even The Shadow knows.

Hey GezaB everyone likes Cortana. Except for me I LOVE Cortana. Why can't she be in my head doing who knows what in there?

No Cortona cannot take over the suit, although she is interfaced into it she cannot control it. In the first book, Fall of Reach the Master Chief takes note of that when he is told that Cortona is interfaced with it. It is further proven when he is in the proving grounds and he deflects the rocket with his arm, Cortona had to tell him when to move it.

There's also the theory (or fact, I don't know) that Cortana made the supposed "random" slipstream jump to the first Halo ring on purpose.

I sure don't trust her...

She Jumped to coordinates that were found on a Forerunner artifact. She didn't know what she was Jumping to.

From page 252 of The Fall of Reach:

John had a sudden flash—AI’s handled a great deal of point defense during naval operations. “Can she control the MJOLNIR armor?” He wasn’t sure he liked that.

“No. Cortana resides in the interface between your mind and the suit, Master Chief. You will find your reaction time greatly improved. She will be translating the impulses in you motor cortex directly into motion—she can’t make you send those impulses.

I would guess that "the mission" is to capture a covenant prophet. Unless Dr. Halsey and Cortana have another mission.

Right, the one that the Covenant were after on Reach.

I might recall that conversation when Dr. Halsey told Cortana to choose the Spartan she wanted, but I also remember her reading John's total file and says she would take care of him and never let anything happen to him again so I do believe she would only do that in a situation with long odds and would certainly not let them kill the Chief.

If there was a choice between completing the mission and letting John die, she would complete the mission. The Spartans safety is secondary to the completion of "the mission".

The mission was to capture a Covenant vessel with the Spartans and learn the Covenant homeworld. The Covenant homeworld has been found (sort of) and the MC will pass the info to Lord Hood, now her mission is completed who knows what she will do.

In the book chief asks specifically whether or not cortana could possess his body and and the response was no. The covenant viewed the forerunner as gods, and in Halo 2 they called master the demon, so maybe what cortana said in the H3 trailer had something to do with these facts.

After watching the Halo 3 announcement I now feel like this is a theme in Halo. In the Halo 3 announcement Cortana mentions something about "Gods and demons." Now, I'm wondering what I missed in Halo 2 that might have been along the same lines. Maybe Cortana and Gravemind. But that's too easy. Got to be something else. Maybe Arbiter and Gravemind.

Ooooh, I have one! Maybe "gods" are the Covenant, b/c they desire to become them after they activate a Halo. Then the "demons" could be MC and the humans.

By saying she defied BOTH gods AND demons, this would be strong to support the claim that she is on the side of gravemind...but what do I know?

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC
