Okay, here we go.

Spark has repeated stated that John is Forerunner, and even implied he was at the original firing of the rings. (I know he is confused)

Mendicant Bias stated that he is once again betraying a former master.

John is called Reclaimer more than any other human.

This leads me to this conclusion: At the end of the central Halo story, John somehow travels back in time, meets the Forerunners and activates the rings himself.

Bornstellar is his opposition, angry that the actual Didact was killed by the maker of the rings, and ends up wanting to destroy them.

Chakas
A long time ago , I was a living, breathing human being. I went mad. I served my enemies. They became my only friends.
Since then, I've traveled back and forth across this galaxy, and out to the spaces between galaxies-a greater reach than any human before me.
You have asked me to tell you about that time. Since you are the last true Reclaimer , I must obey. Are you recording? Good. Because my memory is failing rapidly. I doubt I'll be able to finish the story.
Once, on my birth-world, a world I knew as Erde-Tyrene, and which now is called Earth, my name was Chakas...

Well, what do you think? Sure, the other points maybe wrong, but the main point is that the Chief ends up firing the rings for himself :).

You like the theory? I am seeing too many hints suggesting that this is what is going to happen.

I would hate for that to be what actually happens since it would seem to cheesy and cliche.

On the other hand, even then it could be very well written. It's hard to predict which way it will go since I don't really have an idea of how 343 likes to handle their universe.

Basically. I am nervous about Halo 4 as well. If this is the actual ending, it maybe be cheesy and cliche, but it can be pulled off brilliantly.

I would say the introduction to the Ark is one good example, it was a cheesy, cliche name for an installation, but the story behind it prevented it from being unbearable.

smart, interesting, seems out of place.

Official fan of Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, (Problem with that?) Halo, and Bungie, also a total gaming junkie.

Q4T

I really do hope that Spark is just insane.

ULTIMATE FAILURE.

I mentioned this idea to one of my friends today. He just sat back in his chair with a white face and said "Holy -blam!-. You might be right."

Don't -blam!- with Kerser!

If forerunners had time travel tech, then why were they stupid enough to let themselves get killed by the Halo rings instead of just going back in time. Flawed, logic is flawed.

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

Hate to rain on your parade, but no.
