Jesus took 3 days to respawn, talk about lag.

What are the chances of getting a feature, like a little image of a septagon, right beside each user's name on their post, just to indicate whether they are online or not. Another place where it would be visible would be on each users individual account page. It wouldn't be an obnoxious or flashy image, just something small and simple.

A uncountable number of other forums have this rather simple and harmless feature, so personally I think it's a good idea. For example, it would allow members to know which mods are online and can be PM'd with questions or things that required more immediate attention. While there aren't many major uses for it past this, it would simply be convenient. I am sure the Bungie web team has much bigger fish to fry, but I just thought speak about this a bit and hope.

And unless I am completely oblivious to a huge con for this, I don't see anything inherently wrong with it being implemented. Your thoughts?

I would love an online marker.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

I like it, I like knowing if someone is online.

Why would it matter knowing if someone is online?

This isn't a chat. This is a forum.

It really doesnt matter, it would simply be for convenience. Say a member is harassing another, and being quite rude and threatening to them. Wouldn't it be easier messaging a ninja who is at least online, than messaging ones at random, who might not be available to help? The same argument works the other way as well. Why would an offline ninja want to get 50 private messages about incidents that were resolved before he or she even signed in? If the messages were directed to the online ninja, the forums can be a little bit cleaner, and other ninjas dont have to wade through each of their messages individually, trying to figure out which ones have been dealt with, and finding the ones that havent been addressed?

It would be a cool addition, but what would be the real purpose. There is no chat element to the site, other than private messaging, which is designed quite like emails where the response is expected to be delayed.

If I remember correctly from Duardo. He said something about that little icon next to your join date was suppose to be an online marker. I'm not sure who said it but I do remember someone was talking about it.

I see what you are referring to, although I'm not entirely sure how that works. I am online, but it isnt lit up in any way. I am also assuming most of you are still online, and it is the same for you chaps.

No no no no... It was suppose to be used as that. From what I remember it was never fully implemented.

Oh that makes sense. I misread your post. Well even if it was working, then it would be fairly easy to put something similar in your forum post, beside your user name, as well.

What would determine "online status?"

I leave my browser open with Bungie.net up, pretty much all the time whether I'm at my computer or not. Would I be considered "online?"

You're wasting a lot of internet by doing that.

  • 12.15.2011 8:49 PM PDT

I'd do something like, it'd update every time you load a new page, and would expire after half an hour.

I doubt it. As long as yo don't refresh the page, I don't think that your remaining on one page will be detected.

Activity bro.

Like on Steam. If you don't make a post or move pages for 30 minutes the septagon changes color to show you're away.
