What would determine "online status?"

I leave my browser open with Bungie.net up, pretty much all the time whether I'm at my computer or not. Would I be considered "online?"

Activity bro.

Like on Steam. If you don't make a post or move pages for 30 minutes the septagon changes color to show you're away.

Mine had more effort put into it. As I had colors changing and stuff. Yours was boring. :L

My oh my, what havoc that could be wreaked if someone were to stumble upon that computer ;)

You'd have to figure out the password to unlock it. Even if I'm only going to be gone for a few seconds, I still lock it. This applies to both my personal and work computer.

On Topic: If there ever were a feature like this (I'm not really pushing for it), I would definitely want an ability to toggle it off. As ninjas, you only get to see us when we want you to see us. ;)

Cortana 5 is a carbon-based lifeform that frequently visits these forums, currently residing in the United States. Practically every male on the site responds to her posts.

The Joyeuse IP Formula

wooosh.

Did you see that? That's what we call efficiency.

Let's keep ninjas in the shadows, please.

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

As TU said, it would be best if such a feature had a toggle. Imagine what the "females" in the Flood would go through if everyone knew when they were online. Plus when people see no mods are online blah blah blah.

They could use the old method of displaying activity by updating every time someone loaded a page, as kd5shw and jmh used on their user tracker sites prior to Bungie changing the system. Though, its pretty likely Bungie changed that display for just that reason, so I kind of doubt they're interested in this particular feature. I'm not Bungie though, so I have no idea if they'd want that back, or if they'd want to expand it and add the online icon.

I can imagine why people seeing that no moderators are online would be a bad thing, but what would Floodian girl users get out of this that would be any different then when they're online?

Everything and nothing. My point wasn't that we should not have this feature. The point was it should have a toggle. That was just a poor example.

I feel as though some type of online/offline system was going to be put into place, but it never was.

I'm referring to the Archived Icon beside the join date. It would make sense since there really is no reason why the icon is there. It would turn green when someone is online, and be archived when offline.

If I am not posting, then I am reading what you might have posted.

I love this idea! That would be a great and useful tool to have, or thingy.

Why would it matter knowing if someone is online?

This isn't a chat. This is a forum.

What this guy said. It's pointless to see who's online or not, forums ain't chatboxes.
