Halo doesn't need dedicated servers, just a better host selection system.

Can I have a pursuit warthog? (red&blue flashing lights, siren, black and white paint job, gull-wing doors, no turret but a truckbed cap where the turret assembly should be, and the ability to arrest players :)

A police falcon would be great as well... (Black&white paint job, flashing red & blue lights on the wing struts and tail, no turrets and doors that open and close similar to the republic gunships in Star Wars. Kick... Ass.)

Police pelican would be cool too!!!

I thought BF3 had dedicated servers, which would explain 16vs16 multiplayer.

Because dedicated servers
A. Are expensive not only to have, but to maintain.
B. Do not 'solve' the lag 'problem.' All it does is give 'host advantage' to people physically closer to the server, rather than who is better connected to the host. Great if the people are are nearby the server. Not so great for people farther away, like in other countries.

Meh.

Did the dedicated servers for Gears of War 3 light the world on fire?

Dedicated servers do NOT fix lag.

The reason I believe that PC games tend to use them is because there is no telling how good the network card is in any given computer and whether giving a certain computer host will cause problems for that computer due its hardware limitations.

Halo, out of all shooters on console, is probably the one that doesn't really need dedicated servers. Due to the longer kill times, the role that connection plays in determining a winner is very small.

Inheritor #156 :p

Pretty much what every one above has been saying. They cost a lot to run and maintain, they don't stop lag unless you're close to the servers. You can live in Chicago be in a west coast server and you'll get lag. Lag is a part of gaming and until the networks/internet is faster for every one it's going to still be there. It's a lot better than what it was years ago and i'm sure in the future it will be even more less than it is now.

Cost who a lot? Certainly not you so why do you care?

Don't listen to this idiots that say dedicated servers do not fix lag. They will not fix lag IF THE LAG IS ON YOUR END.

Dedicated server eliminate 99% of the problems of peer to peer hosting, mainly host advantage.

Its probably all these Australians butthurt about not having a 1000 millisecond advantage anymore.

There's a treasure for all of us. For some it's a friend others find a pet and many a lover. The whole adventure is finding where it's hidden.

That treasure doesn't include my avatar, you copycat.

If you want something close to a "Dedicated Server" then host your own custom games and invite your friends over. Otherwise there's no need to rant about this, plus Xbox Live is almost lag less. However, if you are experiencing connectivity issues then here's a helpful link for you:

Then why don't Halo, CoD, Battlefield, and GoW do this to their newer games.

Gears 3 has them.

I was kinda seriously asking if the Gears 3 servers allow the better person to win, much more so than Gears 2?

If so I think it's worth it. It's definitely better than P2P to be sure. But better enough to warrant the cost?
