Subject: A group activity meter

I've heard (and experience) many stories of users finding a nice sounding group, joining and consequently leaving after learning that the group has absolutely no activity, or attempting to join an invite only inactive group in worse cases.

To prevent these sort of incidences from happening, I think we should have a meter or graph that shows the posts per day of a group and how often membership is checked by higher ranking members in groups that require membership approval.

What do you think of these ideas?

I would love these, seeing as how I'm always looking for groups to join.

The meter for how often membership is checked would double as a way to tell how soon you'll probably be accepted into the group as well as a way to check if you'll ever be accepted.

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

I have long awaited the glorious return of the Active-o-meter. Join me, fellow members of the Bungie Flock, in the hope that it reascends to its deserved glory!

Sorry for weirdness, brain isn't working anymore.

Any idea why it went away?

I agree. However I still maintain my belief that there should be:

- Indications of which private groups that you have pending join approval on.

- Messages alerting you when you have been accepted or rejected from a private group.

I actually applaud such behavior. You conveyed information in a imaginative, silly and gripping manner. If you would of had a link to a group page or something of the sort, I would of definitely looked into it.

Yo Halo53, I'm real happy for you and I'ma let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best bungie.net profiles of all time. OF ALL TIME!

We used to have an activity meter. I'm assuming it went away for the same reason we don't have post counts.

If I am not posting, then I am reading what you might have posted.

This would be awesome!

People used it as a yardstick to measure their e-peens. "I've been here 5 days longer than you, noob." "My group is twice as active as your fail group, BK." I think it was also a known fact that groups frequently spammed their private forums in order to make them look more active.

I still think it was worth it though. Well the active-o-meter at least. I could care less about post counts.

Little kids like me used to abuse it to fill the meter.

Sorry.

If it makes you feel any better, that was a long time ago.

I never came here during the Truth and Reconciliation days. I came after the new hawtness, and My memory says it measured groups, and looked like a tachometer. Its possible I'm totally remembering it wrong though.

I honestly laughed when you said sorry to me for being a bad user earlier on Bungie.net.
Posted by: Halo53
Agreed.
Posted by: evilcam
Perhaps Bungie could use a red/yellow/green type system. Red being no activity for a week, yellow for barely being active and green for groups that usually have at least one green plus sign in the forums.

Did... did you guys not click the link I posted? You're speculating on what it looked like when I linked to what it used to look like!

I checked it out after I posted my previous comment. I would of said something, but I'm too lazy to edit my post or look lame by double posting in my own thread.

I'm just wondering, what'd you see in particular that was different? Perhaps you might be thinking of what the layout of the site looked like earlier or later on.

Hard is good.

It would help if we all had notifications, then admins would know if someone had tried to join.

If only time spent signed in could be tracked (can it?), then we could have a not active, not very active, active, very active, extremly active value on our profiles to go with this.

It can be, but I don't like the sound of having a nerd o' meter on my profile. :D

Devils Advocate

I'll second that. I spend way too much time here lurkin'. I don't need a "specialized thermometer" to tell me that I have a incredibly "high fever". Or maybe that'd be a good thing; who knows?

"You build on failure. You use it as a stepping stone. Close the door on the past. You don't try to forget the mistakes, but you don't dwell on it. You don't let it have any of your energy, or any of your time, or any of your space." -Johnny Cash

I don't really care for the idea, but it would be useful.

  • 12.16.2011 1:55 PM PDT

Who the hell do you think I am?

I guess it would be kind of a handy thing to have. I only go in a few groups anyway, though.
