Subject: Username Filtering

There's a treasure for all of us. For some it's a friend others find a pet and many a lover. The whole adventure is finding where it's hidden.

That treasure doesn't include my avatar, you copycat.

I have noticed that there are many usernames out there which use words which are normally filtered by the system. Usually this is not an issue, but I find quite disturbing the fact some trolling accounts out there can simply register using such usernames.

Do you think that usernames should be filtered or that the moderators should have the ability to force username renaming?

If I am not posting, then I am reading what you might have posted.

The username was already made and if it doesn't violate the rules as a insult to others.

Filtering the user would make that user and many others like it, be the same, e.g:-blam!- They would all be called that.

I don't really see why it matters, they have chosen it, and if bungie didn't want them to have a username like that, they would have blocked the words....

I wear the cheese, it does not wear me.

This account is now retired due to WLID changing. Webteam needs to fix that, seriously >.>

Filtering out names could lead to the scunthorpe problem...

Also if people truly want their names to be offensive they'll get creative in ways the filter has no chance against, like synonyms, slang, etc...

OP - You're a dumbass with the reading comprehension skills of a second grader.

Can someone tell me what's wrong with these two, this made me LOL hard.

Hmm...

...I can see a problem with it.

Just saying, I know some forum names are indeed questionable. But if you have a problem with it, just PM an employee with the person's quote and say something like "I don't like this person's name. It has profanity in it."

Something like that.

Feel free to let one of us know if someone has bypassed the filter when creating their account.

The distance between insanity and genius is measured only by success.

The problem with the world is that the intelligent people are full of doubts, while the stupid ones are full of confidence.

Just drink a beer and everything will be ok

You could just make it that if your username gets blam filtered, it isn't accepted and you have to change it?

I enjoy this idea.
Never knew this was a problem.

Do you know what kind of hat I'm wearing?

A party hat; you don't get one. An honor will this party be, a party in your honor, for your honor. Some of Tfear's personal guards are going to be there. You'll be introduced shortly.

Prepare to die.

Honestly, this must be a joke. Child, listen, stop trying to defend yourself because clearly you are incapable of it. The only idiot in this thread is yourself, and trust me, it is obvious. So, how about you do as I asked earlier and log off, mommy and daddy wouldn't want you staying up this late.

The word "ass" may be replaced by "butt", resulting in "clbuttic" for "classic" and "buttbuttinate" for "assassinate"

Buttbuttinate LOL

Seriously though, this is reason enough for me to think that it is a bad idea.

I believe that there's already a system in place if someone's username is inappropriate. I don't know if it's being banned or if it's having your username changed, but I just know that there's already a precaution for inappropriate usernames.

I spend too much time here.. too much time indeed.

I tweet?

Seriously? No, if it's something that's truly offensive report it to a mod via PM.

There are a set of filters for registering usernames as well. So no I don't think they should change anything. Maybe tweak it a little, but not much.
