64 is pushing it for this generation...

a 300% increase in MP Players?

But, it would be uber sweet!
Only, with the options I post a way back, with 1,000 kills. (Poll)

Offline, via a local area network, he said 16 Xboxes could be linked together, hinting at the possibility of games with 64 players.

I don't see how the two relate. He said 16 boxes could be linked together, that's it.

We know nothing regarding slit-screen multiplayer.

I think what they mean is that you could have 16 boxes with 1 person on each. The ammount of processing power needed to have a game with 64 people without lag would be incredible. besides 64 halo players? we'd have to get everyone in the state over at somewhere... god knows my house can't hold 64 people. But ya it would be awesome..

Battlefield: Vietnam supports 64 players. And in a full game, the most players my PC has ever had to render on screen at once is around 10. You never actually see all 64 players on screen at once.

Technically over a LAN it is not Lag it would be low frame rate.

We have 16 boxes linked together here. No-one's noticed that yet," he said.

By the way 16 Xboxs is the maximum limit you can connect. I think it would be possible to have 64 players. Nascar Heat allowed you to connect 16 Xboxs for 32 player racing fun.

too much.......killing would be too easy and the map would be crowded. People woudl spawn kill like it was their job. 16 is perfect and lots of fun. keep it that way bungie

16 players total IN GAME, so:

4 Xboxes X 4 players
8 Xboxes X 2 players
16 Xboxes X 1 player.

All Hoberman says is that H2 allows 16 Xbox LAN, its the writer that makes the ( moronic) assumption that 64 players will be possible.

64 player Halo 2 will NEVER Happen.

It all matters on the size of the map. Have you seen the images of warterworks its huge. It could easily handle 32.

But not 64, some of you kids need to stop thinking that more=better. Game balance would be shot to hell and spawkilling would become a sport with 64 players.

64 = Never gonna happen.

You don't know as much as any of us do; we're just going by what's given to us; and what's with this "kids" thing?

If you read the article you can clearly read that the writer is the one that speculates on the 64 player limit. The Bungie rep only states that 16 xboxes are linked, not a word on 64 players.

The idea of 64 players is so moronic I can't beleive some of you are actually looking forward for that disaster.

The Xbox isn't even close to powerful enough to handle 64 players on one server. It only has a 733MHZ processor. Do the math people!

Balance is key. How will the screen even display the post game carnage report? Imagine your entire team standing together with all their names and icons, you couldn't even see!

16 is more than enough, and I am glad Bungie stuck with it.

From what I've read, still no word from Bungie on MP split-screen - I personally would much prefer a 4TV/4Xbox/16players split-screen LAN with my buddies than having to deal with the "dude I'm so wasted" jack-asses that are sure to be found online...with all the hoopla over Xbox Live, it would be a shame if Bungie neglected those of us who want to get together for some MP syslink. While having Halo in all its glory on a single TV is great, getting together 15 TVs and 15 Xboxes and jamming them into someone's apartment just isn't do-able. Part of what made Halo so great was being able to get together with some buds over a few beers and pizza and play some 8v8 all night long. It'd be a shame if it shipped without 4-player split-screen with syslink support. Frankie?

In Frankies weekly update he states that :
Although the demo stations were set up for ten players - the game actually supports 16 - great news for LIVE, but even better - it supports 16 players for System Link too. Finally! Everyone gets his or her own screen, one way or another.

So most of you guys were wrong. 64 is an unrealistic number in a battle between Spartans and Elites when both sides couldn't muster barley over 32 of each in large battles in the books. The units are "too elite" to be commonplace. But if the multiplayer supported battle between Marines and grunts/jackals it would be more likely.

have none of yall played any of the battlefield games 64 players would not be hard with a dedicated xbox and the levles wouldnt be crouded because they would be massive

um 64 player would be a slight lag\ framrate problem but the fact that the map would have to be huge to support a realistic 64 player game and the extra map size would push the game over the limits

I agree 100% and I highly doubt Bungie would be so incredibly stupid to omit one of the best things of the prequel. Split screen isn't going anywhere.
