I think that 64 players, even on a dedicated server, would be way to much for the Xbox to handle online. 32 playes is understandable for certain games and I think that Bungie could do it if they really wanted to, but there can be problems when there are certain players who begin to lag the game making it miserable for everyone else who is playing. I think 16 players would be fine for Halo 2, and even then it can become laggy.
So, I think if Bungie is going to or thinking of having over 16 players on Xbox Live or LAN that's great, but it is also rather far into the end of developement to think that there is a chance for them to start working on it now. The only possible way for Bungie to make Halo 2 support somewhere even close to over 20-25 players would be if they have already done so.

64 players = impossible on the Xbox
40 players = very unlikely for the Xbox because of lag problems
32 players = possible, but unlikely for a game like Halo 2
24 players = possible, and the most likely choice for a game which would be able to support over 16 players.

16 tv's. Damn. I think it was said in a Frankie update that it would be one person per TV. Also they would have to create a hub with 16 ports that would be reasonably prised, which probable wouldn't sell well.
But if it were true it would kick ass for people with 16 tv access.

those battlefield 1942 games are done on dedicated servers with a lot more power than your PC. Besides if you had a LAN with PCs it would start to lag with about 12 computers. Since the xbox uses all its power into running the game it can pull of 16 linked systems. I dont think the xbox would be able to do 64 players unless you can make one xbox a dedicated server which would mean 4 less players so maybe 60 is doable but come on who in the hell is going to organize a 60 player LAN game. 64 players would be possible over xbox live but i dont think it supports that. What would be cool is if Bungie released a program that you run on your computer to make it a deticated server for 16 linked xboxs playing halo 2 in your house or where ever. Now that would be cool.
