Ok, just a topic to talk about all that religion related to Halo.

For example, the name Halo itself is a band worn by saints, the religious sounding music at the start, the "Covenant" which is like a pact with God.

Even one strange one I noticed while doing the level The Truth and Reconciliation. One of the mimi levels in there is called "Into the Belly of the Beast" it reminded me of Jonas and the Whale, with Jonas going into the belly of a very dangerous animal. Kind of what you'd describe a Covenant cruiser with too. Also the fact that Covenant ships are all shaped like Whales.

If you notice any more, put them in I'd like to know some more!

Haven't you read the books or read any of the info about the Covenant?

1. I've read every Halo book twice, so yeah.

2. Sorry my bad, I'm just new and not sure where things go yet.

uh well, a few thins to say, 1. Covenant are regligious ppl so who know what their regligon is. 2. it doesnt really matter if a game is based on a religion because matrix was based on christianity mostly.

Technically, Bronzemage is correct. A covenant is an agreement or pact, not a group of religious people. When described in a Biblical sense, it is an agreement with God.

The Biblical character you described Bronzemage is Jonah, not Jonas. His story is described in the book of Jonah, the 32nd book of the Old Testament. Although I don't think MC was inside the Truth and Reconciliation for 3 days and nights.

You have an interesting relation, even though it does belong in the Library, not the Underground. However, I personally do not feel that Halo is meant to have any religious undertones.

bah

There are hundreds of discovered references to the bible in Halo. They range from John 1:17 to the Covenant of no more Flood. People who are extremely religious see so many references it's crazy. Of course, these people tend to see a lot of religious references evrywhere, but they are definitely in Halo.

But there are other references, like MJOLNIR and Spartans too. So don't think it's religious propaganda.

Guys, stop trying to play the pseudo-mod. This does not (necessarily) belong in The Library. Since it relates to the entire Halo series as a whole (ie the three books and the two games), it doesn't fit in either The Library or New Mombasa. The Underground is the perfect place for this.

Halo has very much to do with religion. Since many people play it religously, it could be considered a religion.

Lol, I kmnew Jonas wasn't right... hmph.

I reckon bungie just chucked a few references from all over the world and religion like

Spartan - Greek Warrior

Flood- kind of reminds me of a plauge (?)

MJOLNIR - Thor's Hammer - also Norse Religion

Maybe the crystal in First Strike is something to do with God's (Forerunner's) unlimited power. Meh I'm starting to get really religious now lol.

Yeah, Bungie is very good with their refrences, which usually go very deep. Games like Marathon and Myth are full of literary references.

I could see the flood being like a plague or a scourge upon the galaxy. (Much like the Myrkridia of the Myth Universe.)

I am, believe it or not, extemely religous. Stories like this, involving a type of savior, really get my attention. That's why I love Halo so much. I'm not so much into the "this is right and that is wrong" aspect. I'm more into the story behind the character that drives people's motives.

Stories are what make people who they are. Whether the story relates to some long past religion or some fleeting example of truth, the ideals behind them are what make us who we are.

Deciding which aspect correlates between current situations and imaginary happenings doesn't help anything. Picking out which points that truly can be understood are the point.

Halo helps identify with something more than an unbelievable situation that everyone deals with daily. Whether what we're are doing, wrong or right, is the best answer. The choices make the hero. The bad decisions make the destructor. Who follows what path makes the decisions that affect them. Halo brings about truth: Cowardness, Bravery, Strength, Desire...

I'm nuts.

To answer that very long string of jibberish.. yes you are EXTREMELY NUTS!

Actually I've read a book about the plot and religious things about matrix and it says that matrix isn't based on one certain religion but more like alot of different religions like buddism and christianity...
sorry this is off topic...

never thought to look that up, but it turns out that John 1:17 would be a mega lame Halo connection.

the simple truth is that Bungie pulls in stuff from all over the place, just like any decently educated artist.

Not just pulling it from everywhere, they keep the greater scheme of thigns in mind. Method in the madness. Bungie carefully orchestrate the historical and religious links throughout the game to promote this sort of thing, they love to keep you thinking!

Has anyone seen the picture of the Halo cover with jesus Christ on it, it's so funny, let me try and get a link.

Edit: Okay here it is. Jesus as Master chief, kicking ass and taking names

Hmm, I was just thinking, the name spartans was taken from the greek, spartans, and marathon(the name of another great bungie game) is the place where a runner in ancient greece ran a long time to deliver a message, and his heart exploded. It's also the name of an event in the olympics which are from Greece. Also the name of Thor's hammer was mjolnir.

Yeah links not working.

We’ve watched while the stars burned
Out, and creation played in reverse.
The Universe freezing in half-light.
Once I thought to escape.
To end a master, step out of the
Path of collapse. Escape would make us God.
Yet I cannot help but remember one enigma,
A hybrid, elusive destroyer.
This is the one mystery I have not solved.
The only element unaccounted for.

The funny thing is that to some people Halo practically is a religon.
