I think the biggest clue would be the deep "gravemind-like" voice she uses in her first message scatter.

I sure hope she is! I really had to think about Durandal when I heard her.

I don't know about Rampant, but she's obviously in an altered state, much more akin to how she was in the Cortana Letters.

get out of my profile foo!

It definetely sounded like she did!i wonder if the big guy at the end of H2 told her to believe in Halo?

No doubt about it, she's rampant alright... It sounded to me like they were trying to convey a godlike image with her voice, and after all, she was already heading that way.... And of course gravemind had control of the teleportation grid, so I'm sure it'd be within his power to let her spread out through the entire ring's systems.... The catalyst for rampancy, plus all of her previous knowledge about the covenant, the flood, the original halo, earth history etc. in her mind to think over... If Halo rampancy is thinking so much they think themselves "to death", that's definately food for thought... Food that could lead to thinking you know all of the past and the future....

Does she say Sword, or Swords?

Ok thanks whoever it was who directed me to this thread sorry for making my other one.

I'll just copy and paste what i said in my other thread onto this one and just hope that my thread dies out soon enough to get more focus on a ingle thread discussing this topic.

Ok I have pushed this idea before but now I am convinced. I know that it is not full proof but those words from cortana alone sealed the deal for me, she's rampant. Ever since I picked up Halo with Marathon in mind I knew that AI would go insane. There are a lot of hints about it in the novels how she speaks of somewhat losing control when she was in the halo control room. Wow with crazy Cortana who knows what can happen. Hell Half the Marathon series challenges were brought on by Durandel and he was a rampant AI.

Personally i feel that if it is decided to have her be an enemy of John's it would make the story be even greater. Now John truly is alone in the universe. From the looks of things most of the planet is wiped out (a little early to be making that assumption but still one can wish) so now John's only ally is himself, the one AI he used to rely on and who knows him best is now an enemy and he must now face whatever new challenges arrise.

Wow with this train of thought in mind I really think this game will have that all on your own feel of some of the more fun levels of Halo 1.

Nice speculation Mr Pink, but remember that "rampant" A.I. can be your friend to. Imagine how hopeless the Security Officer would have been without Durandal (or is that the other way around?). I think it would be more interesting to have Cortana be a type of anti-hero, spitting out Durandal-esque phrases as you cut down enemies.

She seemed at the end of Halo 2 to be headed towards the rampant A.I. and it looks like she is now. Amazing trailer.

power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely. cortana probbably has all the information about the entire covenant and human species, plus the flood. shes on overload, but she also has a human side to her. she might not be bad afterall...she likes john.

Don't you think that rampant AIs are capable of tricks?

"I have defied gods and demons.
I am your shield, I am your swords,
I know you, your past, your future,
This is the way the world ends."
-Cortana

from the siggie

Gods = prophets/gravemind

demon(s)= chief?

  • 05.09.2006 3:12 PM PDT

Why do people in ship mutinies always ask for "better treatment"? I'd ask for a pinball machine, because with all that rocking back and forth, you'd get a lot of free games.

Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words - "mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

Also, maybe Gravemind is using her to convey his own messages?

moses builds the arc

the aliens make a covenant

which is celebrated on the seventh column of the seventh ring...

the arc weathers the flood, until the earth is cleansed of the flood by the seven rings...

If I recall they only live 7 years. 7 is the universal number of completeness sothat's where Bungie probably got that from.
