Halo 1 was Halo 1. Halo 2 was Halo 2. Halo 3 will be Halo 3.

For those not keeping score, that means each game in the series is what it is. Halo 3 will not be Halo 1 or Halo 2, just as Halo 2 was not Halo 1. It will stand by itself. There will be a bunch of you who will still say Halo 1 was the only good one, there will be others who stick with Halo 2, and so on. But regardless of your eventual opinion of the product, one thing will be true - Halo 3 will be Halo 3, and not simply be more of either Halo 1 or Halo 2.

Anybody who says otherwise is not looking at things clearly, and is probably tainted by various loud mouthed forum posters who don't understand that their opinion is not universal (this goes for all sides of this stupid argument). So let it die, please. This is a foolish topic, with its idiocy only approached by the skill/no-skill conversation.

It's not a foolish topic at all. This is the only chance we have to give input before the game is made and becomes final. Sad that you don't see that. Halo 1 started it all off, and because of it's near perfection, was a very hard game to top. Some people love Halo 2. I've found again and again, that many of the people that prefer Halo 2 hardly played Halo 1, or only played the PC version. That isn't true for all, but for most.

I know you guys, behind closed doors must admit many aspects of Halo 2 isn't everything you had dreamed of. Inconsistant weapons, cheating, lag. I'm sure a lot of problems can be solved just by having a better net code. Other online games on the 360 don't seem to have these problems. But, put in Halo 2 and the lag and problems related to lag are rampent.

My biggest complaint about Halo 2 is the aspect ratio. I can't play with my buddy sitting next to me. We have to revert back to Halo 1, playing on XBL to enjoy the game together. Not that I mind since we love Halo 1. But, we really never had much of a chance to "love" Halo 2 because we couldn't enjoy it the same way. This is something I would like the devs to hear about, and hopefully change for the better. So, it's hard not to bring up the H1/H2 argument when talking about such things.

My second major complaint is the lack of being able to easily play the maps and gametypes I want to play. You guys seem to have a terrible sense of humor when creating these "playlists". Being forced to play maps and gametypes I hate really took the air out of my tires long ago. It took over a year of screaming for you to put Hardcore in. You are just so darn stubborn that you fought against us at every turn. Yes, fought AGAINST your customers!!! I had never seen anything like it. And then when you did add it, it was a Mickey Mouse version of what we wanted. You added tons of team sniper games, and mixed objective and team slayer. I think I would get a hardcore team slayer game about every 6th game. It was SO frustrating. I finally just stopped playing.

Anyway, that's what I want to see in Halo 3. There are many more things I could have brought up...but those are my main concerns. But, don't blow us off just because you don't like what we say. We are your customers....you know, the people that are going to buy it:o)

I understand him saying Halo will be Halo, and Halo 2 will be Halo 2. I just hope Halo 3 will have a better feel. I remember watching one of the Bungie employess talk about how if you can get in that 10 seconds of fun and keep repeating it you got a good game (something like that).

I loved playing Halo on my free time because it was fun everytime. Halo 2 got boring and repetitive. The people on this forum can keep his or her opinion, but I know Halo 3 will be something fresh and new.

I just can't wait to see what it's like. I think the entertainment industry has a big problem with making movies or games worse the second and third time around.

I would not buy another Bungie game though if Halo 3 is a disappointment.

Agreed. No one's trying to bash Halo 2, I think. And also, if the gamers do not
give thier opinions and critique the game designer, then the game designer
won't know what to add or take away in thier next game. In order for an artist
to appease his audience, his work must be critiqued.

I'm sure that in the end, Halo 3 will be a great work of art and will be enjoyable
for us all.

I love how on this forum, if you have a different opinion about Halo 2, you're automatically labeled as a "noob" or "you just suck at Halo" or "yeah go play your Halo PC noobfest".

I think that Bungie got it just right when they released H2, it has a perfect balance of fun, skill, and balance. I hope that H3 further improves on everything that Bungie got right in H2

So it's safe to say, we should expect Tri-Weilding?

Oh no. :(

Achronos asked that the tone of discussion be improved in this thread; it hasn't. I'm locking it. This isn't Zanzibar. You're not going to get away with misbehaviour here like you did there.

Behave. Or sit it out for a week.

Rofflwaffle, so Master Chief will hold two guns, and the third will be wedged in one of his armpits.

All very well that Halo 3 will be different from 2 and 1, but I'm still concerned about mistakes that were made last time. Given the many balance issues, the fact that Halo 2 was designed so soccer moms could gun down players in 20 minutes, the terrible campaign, and all the other problems, I think it's more than fair that paying customers post their concerns. If you (Bungie) don't want to hear them (which would be somewhat foolish IMHO).

Personally, I am concerned that some of the great aspects of the games will be needlessly removed, or changed for the worse. Based on Halo 2, I'm worried that the wonderful melee attack will permanently become a weak, physics defying clumsy lunge, instead of that wonderful satisfying wack from numero 1, and that in the next campaign I'm going to end up with another 3 spare clips of ammo that go in no time.

So Tom, if you or Bungie don't like the criticism or concerns about how some aspects of the game will turn out, fine. If you don't like rational discussion of certain concerns/criticisms, fine. But I sure as hell don't think you can label it foolish, when it is backed up with reasoning. Especially when the reasoning for the original changes is either lacking in substance or non-existant. (Incidentally I'd love to hear why a weak lunging melee is much more satisfying combat than before, and why on Earth you carry 3 clips of ammo for the BR/SMG in Halo 2)
