After waiting 30 minutes for the large version trailer to load, I sit with the volume turned up, the lights turned out and my face less than a foot from the monitor. When John stepped out into the sun and Marty's amazing music score hit.... indescribable. It Felt like I was finally getting to see Halo as it was meant to be, in all its glory. And yes, I did feel like crying for joy somewhat, but it was overcome by feverish excitement and pride the next minute.
People say "It's just a stupid video game and the developers just want to lure you into wasting your money". Then why when I watch the trailer to I feel attached to the character I see? Why do I read the books written about it? Because Halo is more than a video game, it is a story. And a totally awesome story at that. In my mind the Halo trilogy is the greatest game series ever made. Thank you Bungie for not settling for the mediocre or run of the mill, but only the absolute best fantasy the human mind can imagine.
Now I must go back to reality (sigh), and wait there until 2007.
P.S. Normally I would be interested in such things as PS3 and other things E3, but now... All that matters is HALO 3. Period.
*Slow Clap starts up. Bravo Brotha Bravo! The reason Halo is such a great story is because it uses the typical Hero story. One person, man, being takes a journey to defend an idea, place, civilization. While on the way he changes the world, himself, or learns something about himself. This simple formula has given us almost all RPG, and almost all video games. But Halo stands above most games with its real feelings and connections to the characters, with these connections we feel almost totally immersed and feel that not only is it their journey, but also ours that we must take.
