Subject: Big rings at beginning of trailer?

"Bother", said Pooh, as he chambered another round.

I'm going to guess the big rings are the orbital guns destroyed. Sorry if this is glaringly obvious to some, but it might be a mystery to others. So I believe they are the OG because the Covenant had to blow past them to get to the Ark, which is shown later in the trailer.

Its the New Mombasa bridge. My friend was just discussing it. Look closely at the rings, you should see the cables and more rings (albeit tiny and faint) behind it. LOOK CLOSELY.

The big guns in the first level? The Orbital MAC guns?

They reminded more of the giant fan from Zanzibar for some reason, but fallen MAC guns are a definite possibility.

True, but those aren't necessarily cables. They could be the inside structure supports of the stations?

MAC guns were positioned around Planet Reach and Earth. If ships failed or were not enough to stop the Covenant, MAC guns were used. These guns could take out a whole Covenant ship with one well placed shot. As you can guess..these guns were what the Covy focused on first reaching Reach. Once they destroyed/melted the guns, the went ahead and glassed the planet Reach. Then they made their way to Earth. As mentioned before, Earth had its own OG MAC guns as a last defense. To me, both guesses of the ring being a OG or a bridge are good. As for the lines coming off the ring..we dont know if they were supposed to be attached to something in the middle or to the rest of the bridge.

I agree, it is the New Mombasa Bridge. Think about the story of Halo 2 for a second. A pre-mature attack on Earth at the specific location of New Mombasa. It only seems to reason that the Ark, is infact near, or even, benethe New Mombasa.

forget the fact its the bridge

cos its not there are at least 4 rings miles apart from each other

it is however on mombasa cos u can see some of old mombasa buildings in the very far background at the end of the trailler

as an aside i counted 30 covie capital ships which may sound like a lot but chief can take em easy and i would imagine thats the entire covie now what with the civil war ETC..

I BELIEVE THEY ARE THE MOMBASA BRIDGE BUT WHAT ABOUT PYLONS FOR TRANSPORTING ELECTRICITY IN THE DISTANCE ACROSS THE CRATER YOU CAN SEE PARTS OF MOMBASA STILL BURNING.
THE CHIEF AT THE START IS WALKING THROUGH WHAT USED TO BE A TUNNELS LIKE THE ONE IN HALO2 MTROPOIS LEVEL BECAUSE YOU CAN CLEARLY SEE THE LIGHTS

Its the space elavator. the thing in the middle of new mombasa.

  • 05.09.2006 2:37 PM PDT

my best guess would be its the bridge
i think its been destroyed not from covenant attack but from when regrets ship made a slipspace jump in the city which caused the entire city to pretty much explode

we need to understand if this IS new mombasa, then there used to be ALOT of buildings here, its probably just big scraps from the old city, i myself believe their from the bridges since there was alot of water around new mombasa there had to be other bridges like the one we saw in halo 2, so their probably from that, and i dont think the Orbital MAC guns would have much left if they hit the ground, the covenant plasma torpedos would first turn them into molten slag and then with the atmosphere there wouldnt be much left, and when we saw some explode in h2 from the bombs, same affect basically

Perhaps they're miles apart because it's been blown up?

If the ORBITAL guns were destroyed, they would not fall back to earth because they are in ORBIT. They would keep circling in space or parts would drift away. They would not re-enter the atmosphere.

It looked like a destroyed bridge to me. It was definitely an earth-bound structure of some sort. Bridge seems most likely...

I dunno, could that be the crash site of the forerunner ship?

wait... HELL NO IT CAN'T!
I think that it is the Mombasa Bridge, though that does not make ANY SENSE! The Mombasa bridge bridges water, and there is clearly no water there... Now you may be saying "Oh, the covenant glassed it!" WRONG! If the ark is a holy relic to the covenant, they would never be stupid enough to attack the planet it is based on, lest they destroy it...

Post if you agree
