Actually, Halo 2 had no credibility for actual skill. Yes, some of it was the change in game play, but most of it was due to cheaters, hackers, modders, etc.
There's still cheating going on today for crying out loud. Most/ almost all of the high ranking Halo 2 players are or have been cheaters to get to the top.
I believe that Halo 2's ultimate down fall was the players, although I didn't agree with SMG start. (Please don't flame me for stating my opinion. I haven't flamed any one for stating theirs) Halo 2 did have some skill; all games do. But many people believe that Halo 1 is more skillful. Why? Because the difference in style.
IMO, Halo 1 was about who had the better accuracy. People would complain that Halo 1 was more noobish then Halo 2 because of the Pistol, yet Halo 2 was filled with Auto Aim, where as Halo 1 did have AA, but very, VERY minute. If you were killed in 3 shots, you were most likely running in straight predictable lines.
IMO, Halo 2 was more about the positioning, which many people still complain about. You didn't start off with good weapons at first. You had to go find them, and if someone got to a better one first, your chances dropped considerably. Sure, if an SMGer can kill someone with a rocket launcher, then great, but that probably means that Rocket man had no idea what the heck he was doing.
Other contributions, such as super bouncing, spawn killing (with out the victims having a chance to fight back), positioning, noob combos, and power weapons made the game, in my opinion, go down hill.
I would probably still be playing it today, if hackers, modders, and cheaters were extinct, but I play tactical shooters now, like Counter Strike: Source and Ghost Recon.
Yes, I am one of those people that want Halo 3 to have the same "play style" (not the exact same style...) as Halo 1. There were hardly any complaints with Halo 1. Why so many with Halo 2?
Many people say it was because a person would think they were "the best" because he/she only played a few people. Once Halo 2 came, their eyes were opened, and they couldn't believe that they "sucked." That doesn't explain the Halo 1 players on the PC. Another note: If my little brother sucked at Halo 1, yet played very good in Halo 2, does that make much of a difference?
It's all about the play style, IMO. Halo 1 fans liked how if you were better then someone, you would kill them, rather then who can run to the weapons faster and keep them the longest.
Please, these are my opinions. You can disagree, but don't flame the person that made them...
