Do you see U.S. troops running around with pistols in their hands? No. I know Halo isn't like real life, but it still involves guns that shoot bullets. U.S. troops use assault rifles, like M4s or M16s, but they don't run around with a single pistol in their hands. A dumbass would do that. Pistols are not powerful enough to penetrate armor or hurt people as much. Plus, pistols usually don't have scopes on them. They also don't have a high rate of fire too. If a pistol faces an M4 1 on 1, the M4 would mow the stupid pistol person down instantly, because each of it's more powerful shots that are being shot at a higher rate of fire and FPS (feet per second). BTW, if you don't even know what an M4 is, then search it up and learn, because it's the primary gun U.S. troops use in war.

Dude I totally agree, I think at least they should make a rifled gun like the pistol from halo 1 but not a gosh dang pistol... that thing was too good for the size it was lol.

i know dude if I hear people crying "bring back the pistol from HCE" one more time I will snap. It was way to strong for MM. The gun was almost as strong as the sniper, it didn't even make sense.
how sweet did the new rifle look? almost a cross bread between the machine gun from HCE and the BR, almost like the M4 you mentioned. Possibly chage the rate of fire, zoom, all that good stuff.

Pistols cant penetrate armor? I guess the Desert Eagle .50 is a fake gun? And I guess that DE .50 with scopes don't exist? The halo 1 pistol had explosive rounds also. You lose.

One of the most powerful guns in the world is a pistol. & You got to realise, a spartan isent a regular soilder. Someone trained witha pistol, could annihalate someone untrained with a M4. I'm just sticking up for pistols. Sorry for spelling.

Soldiers don't run around with .50 DEs, either. Not in realistic combat, not in sci-fi combat.

I think a medium between the two pistols would be good. Not a three shot kill from long distance like H1, and not a 13 shot kill form point blank like H2. How about a pistol, with or without 2X zoom, that takes 5,6,7 shots in the face to take someone down. So there'd be enough ammo to get 2 kills per clip, not 4, and it would not make picking up upgrades, like rockets, snipers, and BR/ARs unnecessary. What do you think?

The Halo 1 pistol was the great equalizer in multiplayer. Unlike in Halo 2, when you spawn in Halo 1, you actually get a decent gun, and stand a chance against other opponents who have Rockets and Snipers. In Halo 2, when you spawn, you are screwed with the SMG, and even the BR isn't too powerful.

If you ever played Halo 1's multiplayer and if you were good at it, you would have loved the pistol, it provided some of the most intense firefights ever seen, it took a lot of skill to master (pistol is actually kinda weak if you aren't good with it), and it provided you with a chance to get a kill right when you spawn, instead of having to go and find a weapon.

So I don't know what you are whining about, plus Halo is unrealistic. If you want Halo 3's multiplayer to take no skill, have massive auto-aim, unbalanced weapons, and weak starting weapons, why bother playing Halo 3? Halo 2 already gives you those things.

Hopefully Halo 3 will be as different from Halo 2 as Halo 2 was from Halo 1.

This game is in the future; the pistols are more advanced then today's. In the future, they can put accurate scopes on pistols. They can also have a high rate of fire in the future too. There are Automatic Pistols now. Plus, Master Chief would use a pistol against the powerful covenant weapons if the gun could kill them with three head shots; oh wait...it does kill them with three head shots. Now, I loved the pistol in the first game; but I don't necessarily think that the pistol should be brought back. I'm just responding to this because Manhunter's logic was completely screwed up.

This is the lamest argument that people always make against the pistol. Find a better reason than, "It is unrealistic, pistols suck in real life." Guess what, Halo isn't real life. It's a video game. Video games are supposed to be as fun as possible, not as realistic as possible.

I'm not even going to argue for the pistol because you Halo 2 fans who never competitively played Halo 1 multiplayer won't listen. Okay, you don't want the pistol. I don't care. If I sound irritated, it's because I'm tired of seeing these anti-pistol topics everyday.

I'm fine with a moderately powerful (think 8-10 shot kill) pistol, so long as the range is short. That way, rifles stay long-range, pistols and SMGs rule CQB. The way it should be.

Assuming "the pistol" will be back because of seeing an AR in the trailer is wrong.

Don't drag up Halo 1 v 2 topics in forum about a game we haven't even seen played yet.

Yes it may be unrealistic but it was the most heavily balanced weapon in that game giving double damage to head shots, and punishing holding down the trigger with increaed scatter in shots factored in automatically.

Also while playing a sci fi game do not try to apply realism.

Though I agree the pistol should die in place of the BR acting just like it instead. That with amping up the damage of all the guns would help out.

Read the instruction manual to the first game. The pistol shoots high explosive rounds, not normal bullets. In Halo 2, the pistol has a smaller clip due to the fact that it shoots smaller rounds, thus doing less damage.

While i do not agree with the power of the pistol, can we not leave this debate for when we know a little more. The game is just being announced! Let's relish in that fact a little bit. Show some respect to Bungie and dont' dog on a game you really know nothing about yet.

ur right, a pistol shouldn't be able to do that. So instead, make the BR exactly like the pistol in every way, just change the skin. Problem solved.

And if none of you have noticed, THIS IS FICTIONAL

It is fictional, but it is based on real human heapons. And for those of you who say "Well this is based in the future, and it will be more powerful then" All I have to say it that all the other weapons will too. I don't mind if it is pretty powerful, say 6 head shots for a kill. But I don't think it should be scoped, and I think it should lose it's accuarcy after going about 25 feet.

You don't see U.S. troops fighting alien alliances either, so I guess this whole game is unrealistic. Maybe they should just scrap it?
