I believe that because regrets ship made the jump in the city is why the landscape is totally destroyed. I dont think the covenants weapons could make a city look like that, it would look more burnt and beaten to a crisp.
This is probably why there is no water (everyone is saying "those rings in the background cant be the bridge because there is no water)

=) it looked old, buried by time, not a large force (slipspace)

and certainly also not done by weapons....


ahh.... cheif looks stupid. lets go back to the halo 2 announcement trailer cheif... badass!

It looks to me as though those rings in the background are part of that large tower in the middle of New Mombasa. Also, the rest of the environment looks like it was Zanzibar. Note the toppled sign and the structure the Chief walks through that looks a lot like the windmill.

i think the thing he walked through was one of the tunnels from mombasa in halo 2, very similiar shape and design and it has the same lights on it
