I thought all Bungie Employees had gold text. After reading what Tinman Posted I guess I was mistaken. Or are only members of the webteam allowed to have gold text. Also, if you guys look here Tinman had gold text in the past. I'm slightly confused.

Maybe they have the choice to use gold text. For this post tinman decided not to enable this feature. I guess he didn't want to bring a lot of attention to a thread like that with the golden septagon.

I imagine that they can choose whether or not they want Gold Text. Though the custom picture sorta gives things away.

  • 12.19.2011 3:04 PM PDT

I think it's optional. I know a least a few employees that are just classed as regular members.

I was aware that he did not have gold text, but I have never really considered why. I'm fairly sure employees that are not part of the web team (such as Marty the Elder) do usually have gold text, so I'm not sure why he does not. I was under the impression that employees had to have gold text, but that may be wrong.

Posted by Achronos ages ago, suggesting that employees are given gold text:

Just as Bungie employees are never not seen as "speaking for Bungie", moderators are always "speaking as moderators". In both cases, even when they aren't speaking for anyone but themselves, they are viewed as being "official".

If they were allowed to turn off their color, it would be easier for them to go under the radar, yes. But that also means it would be easier for them to forget that everyone knows they are moderators, and forget that they have to hold themselves to the standard that implies. The same goes with Bungie employees - if they post on Bungie.net, I give them gold text, not because they necessarily want to have a big target painted on them, but because they need it to remember that people know they are employees and anything they say will be treated as an official press release.

This is non-negotiable. It is for both our protection, their protection, and your protection. You're not going to convince me that it is a bad idea. There are lots of cases where a person who could be considered a representative of an organization posts something they think is anonymous or off the record only to have it come back to them in a bad way. The colors and titles DIRECTLY prevent that kind of thing from happening - it isn't arbitrary, it was very deliberately done and has nothing to do with some ambigious worry about elitism - which I still think many people on these forums are way too paranoid about and are generally acting like luddites about new features because of that paranoia.

Oh nice, I guess that makes sense... but it doesn't say why Tinman lost the gold text.

Most Bungie employees don't have gold text. Only those people who need to be "official" on the forums and some special cases who have been otherwise trained by the community team get it. This list is generally very short, usually consisting of the web team and the community team with very few exceptions.

In case anybody is wondering, yes, that is a change from the original policy (a change that happened some time ago).

It's optional. Sometimes they may not want too much attention, thus forgoing the golden hue of excellence.

Some employees are even so mischievous that they choose to keep everything about their nature clandestine in order to conceal their wicked aspirations. On the other hand, others are entirely selfish and will sacrifice the informative security of their social workings to be examined carefully by juicy eyed kids of twenty years or so, such as myself ;)

May I offer some advisement though?

You shouldn't ask yourself such worthless questions. Aim higher. Try this: Why am I here? Why do I exist, and what is my purpose in the universe?

(Answers: 'Cause you are. 'Cause you do. 'Cause I gt a shotgun, and you ain't got one.)

Notably Unstable,

Thanks for promoting my thread in the process ;)

But yeah, Achronos pretty much cleared that one up. There are employees with accounts that don't even have the "Bungie Employee" title but I'm not gonna give them out :)

Does this mean that the majority of employees aren't allowed gold text? If they requested it would you refuse to let them have it?

Can a employee at Bungie, whose have a bnet user account, officially publish some news?

And if possible, would that violate the disclosure contract form that all Bungie's employee signed?

Makes sense to me. Something like leadership training.
