The entire Halo series, from the first game to the novels to (it appears) the third game have an "Independence Day" feel to it.

I'm sure someone from an older generation would have something else to compare it to, but for (most of) us, Independence Day was the first movie that made us stand up and say, "Go, Earth!"

There are plenty of superficial similarities (Aliens finding us first, attacking without provocation, near annihliation of the human race, humans working together as a single team instead of warring each other, etc), but I think that's where it all stops.

I do see parallels in the games. I think the Covie ships look better.

Actually when I saw the swirling clouds and the bright light and halo's references to the ark I immediately thought of the Indiana Jones movie search for the lost ark.

In the climax of the film as the -blam!-s are opening up the ark (of the covenent) the sky begins to swirl just like as pictured in the halo story line. Then the bright light starts shooting out and it kills all who looked upon it (just the -blam!-s, Indiana and the other woman are fine fore some reason because they didn't look at it)

So maybe the way to save yourself from the halos is to just not look at it lol (if I can't see it it's not real)

Oh geeze sorry for that I forgot (the blams should be n*a*z*i*s don't worry I'm not trying to spread their ideology anyone who saw the movie should know what I'm talking about)
