Kurt may have been a better teacher than John, certainly. But a better leader? I'm skeptical. There's a reason John was made 'Master Chief,' and a reason why Kurt was deemed an acceptable loss from the front-lines to fall into a teaching role whereas John continued to lead his Spartans until Reach.

He was the best Spartan.

John was made leader because he took charge in the one mission.

Also, we can reason Kurt was taken as he'd be the best teacher/excellent leader that the S3's needed, while not sacrificing leadership for S2's. I doubt they nabbed Kurt just cause he wasn't great. They took him for his leadership abilities.

To Seal, again, sometimes the most balanced/average soldier can succeed over specialized ones. Or is suited for leading because he's decent at nearly everything, and isn't going to approach things all the time like says a CQC or sniper would.

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

No it isn't it is completely logical and makes sense. If anybody knows a thing about transformers you can use megatron and soundwave as an example.

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.
/slow clap for respect

:)
The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

Is it me, or are some people taking it too personally that some of us are saying the Chief is rather average or slightly above average?

People have to understand here that we arent calling him a bad Spartan, but it seems they are.

Really, I don't get why people think that way. I mean, obviously Master Chief wasn't 'hyper-lethal' in anything other than luck. It was obviously Kurt who was hyper-lethal in the leadership department, and Six who was the most hyper-lethal overall in the SPARTAN-III category.

First off, you cannot be "Hyper-Lethal" in luck.

Second, how are you always getting on people about "making up stuff" yet you are trying to say she was talking about Kurt? Yea that makes sense, she is going to refer to a spartan nobody knows about that is good marketing.

Like it or not she was talking about MC, there is no reason for her to talk about Kurt. And also, you cannot be "Hyper-Lethal" in Leadership. Do you even understand that word?

http://www.bing.com/Dictionary/search?q=define+average&qp vt=definition+of+average&FORM=DTPDIA

Average

1. typical amount: the level, amount, or degree of something that is typical of a group or class of people or things

John is not typical in the skill department of S-IIs, an example of one that would be is Grace.

3. a measure of a player's or team's achievement, reached by dividing the number of opportunities for successful performances by how many times a successful performance was achieved

Well, John has had a very succesful career

ADJECTIVE

1. lacking any extraordinary, untypical, or exceptional characteristic

Again, clearly not average.

2. not bad, but not very good either

Don't get "very good" confused with the best. I would argue, compared to other S-IIs in all catagories, that Master Chief falls in the "very good" part of things.

http://www.bing.com/Dictionary/search?q=define+balanced&g o=&form=QB

Balanced

2. containing different parts in suitable quantities or suitably arranged to produce a satisfying and effective whole

combined with

http://www.bing.com/Dictionary/search?q=define+most&go=&a mp;form=QB

Most

1. ADJECTIVE greatest: indicates the greatest in number, amount, extent, or degree

You get:
John-117 is the S-II that has the highest degree of skills in suitable quantities that provides the greatest effective whole.

Much different from:
John-117 is the S-II that is not bad, but not very good either.

The only thing with calling him "balanced" is that we do not have examples of preforming what the other spartans specialize in to compare. Thus you cannot make such a bold claim without being able to provide facts.

Which is why we just said "average". It might not be the best word for what we are trying to say, but the meaning gets across.

  • 12.24.2011 4:06 PM PDT

QP

More people play the games than read the books. Whether you are right or wrong...it was pointless attempting to defend an idea that no one cares about on here. Your rebellion of Master Chief isn't as special as you think it to be.

  • 12.24.2011 4:21 PM PDT

Also, Grace, like most Spartans, can't really be called Average. Her ability with explosives ruins that.

In calling chief that, it fits. He's never been given a specialization, nor does he really stick to one type of combat.

Pretty much most of the Spartans trained and specialized in one area, Chief did not.

Well there is Kurt and Fred who also don't specialize. I'm calling Bull on the "knife" specialist. He has been seen TWICE in canon with knives. Once twirling one, and once using two to take on some Elites. None of that indicates specialization. ALL S-IIs are trained to use knives VERY effectively. Kelly(Her speed translates to response times, which in turn, translates to H2H skills) and Will are the H2H specialists of Blue Team. John and Fred take the leadership/well-roundedness role(Fred maybe a little bit of a sniper, I have a quote to back it), and Linda, obviously, being the sniper.

Says who? Chuck Norris?

Second, how are you always getting on people about "making up stuff" yet you are trying to say she was talking about Kurt? Yea that makes sense, she is going to refer to a spartan nobody knows about that is good marketing.

The die-hard Halo fans maybe who actually have good taste in well-developed characters.

Like it or not she was talking about MC, there is no reason for her to talk about Kurt.

There is no proof, thus, that is your 'opinion'.

And also, you cannot be "Hyper-Lethal" in Leadership. Do you even understand that word?

There is no way anybody can understand its meaning within the context of the Halo universe, because it has never been stated. Nice try.

Did you even read my definition? In terms of the story, Master Chief has been shown to be more Hyper-lethal than Kurt(or at least has more feats showing so), and in the context of the Vidoc, it makes absolutley no sense is "the other" is Kurt. Especially because 6 is portrayed very similar to Chief, a silient covie-killing machine(In terms of what the majority of people understand Chief to be, which is what that Vidoc is directed at anyways).

You are a complete moron.

seeing how we are going to use moronic logic in a conversation with you, show us the cold hard facts that halsey would randomly start talking about kurt.

And You don't need context with "Hyper-Lethal Vector", Leadership and luck do not contribute to said vector. If you are that much of a child to where you must start making stupid arguments, in a vain attempt to fuel the desire to always be right i don't know what to say to you. Other than you are an imbecile and we are all dumber for trying to explain a simple concept to you.

[sarcasm]Don't you see Grey? Hyper-Lethal Leadership is the leadership skill of intentionally killing your teammates with great skill, and Hyper-Lethal Luck is the ability to flip a coin and magically someone dies. Obviously.[/sarcasm]

Wow, you two have officially crossed the line with me. I am here trying to have a mature discussion and now you have resorted to name-calling? Petty name calling? Really Grey? Are YOU that much of a f--kin Child you have to resort to name calling? I am disappointed in you, you have proven yourself unworthy of my time, I can't believe I am even wasting my time with you. I feel like my IQ has just dropped sharply simply by reading your posts.

This is what happens when people run out of excuses, let Grey serve as an example. Pathetic.
