Damn it womy! I was just going to come back from time to time to make some edits to the main topic but as soon as I saw you and other Halo 2 forum regulars posts, I couldn't stay away. So much for my vacation. :(
*cracks knuckles*
Now let's get down to business.
*puts on strategy dedicated reading glasses*

Outfrakking STANDING post!
The forums have been too long dominated by "what should the next game or remake have" posts, and lacking posts that explore the ways to make the campaign gameplay as challenging as possible. SG and Grumpy Posts are always a MUST READ!
I very much enjoyed reading this, especially since I have been mired in my own (un-authored) attempts at both CE and 2 pain in the ass play methods. Thanks! :D
I wouldn't say that. I found that to be the case on Waypoint. Here, there's still life. Did you see G Domin8r's post? You should take a look.
I love making strategies too. :3

CE-been going for legendary no die, no health pack runs on each level. Completed PofA, Halo, T & R (that was a stone cold SOB), Silent Cart and AotCR (that took 8 days to get one without dying and no health packs!)PoA isn't too bad.
Halo always seems like hell to me.
T&R is a scary level.
SC is the easiest one.
For AotCR, that would have been hell to do without skipping.

For H2 I mess around with the skull combos alot, depending on how much time I have to focus on a specific type of insanity.
I am happy to see that some of the tactics you describe are also ones I have found to be useful.I can safely say that without my much needed vacation, I may spend up to 7 hours today trying to get past Authorized Personnel Only. *shudders*
Great!

Right now I have Thunderstorm, Catch, Envy, Sputnik, Assassins and Angry going and found the same issues for CS. The only way through is to get the elites pissed off enough to go to the sword, then they are not so tough. What alot of people miss is that you can still use the PP/BR noob combo on a cloaked elite. As long as he is running straight at you, and you have a decent aim, your PP overcharge will light him up, and a headshot finishes him no sweat. I have found that the second hanger is almost manageable if you use the crates to block their fire, then use plasmas to get them to the sword, then goad the sword bearers into chasing you back towards the machine gun turret, and viola, that is your chance to noob combo them. If you miss with the first overcharge and he is fairly close, you better cloak quick or he will Ginsu your hide into nice sized slices. With Mythic on, you need 2 plasma pistol overcharges. Famine makes that inconvenient so hoarding plasma pistols might be a good idea since picked up weapons don't usually disappear. Of course, against weapon Elites, dual wielding plasma pistols is the best option since they'll just take cover if their shields get low. Dual wielding needlers, plasma rifles, etc. will work on sword Elites.
There is a way to avoid the first blow from the sword Elite if you crouch + melee (with projectile weapon or sword I don't know) at the right time IIRC. I think it really depends on which animation it is: horizontal step slash or vertical slice.

I have found that you have to have Catch active, or you will never have enough grenades. I used to think that this helped best by allowing grouped grunts to be taken out and creating a nice pile. But if you have Sputnik active, the first grenade explosion sends everybody flying far enough away to survive the huge round of secondaries.
I wouldn't say that. There's plenty of plasmas in the 1st hangar. Bringing 4 plasmas from the previous areas will give you enough to last up to the 2nd hangar. But then it does become a problem unless you skip the room after the armory. After that, you only have 2 Ultra Elites to deal with (the rest are Rangers). The bomb room battle isn't too bad since you can assassinate Elites there. But no Black Eye would make it very risky. I have to try it without Black Eye. Oh there I go again. NNOOOOO!!! *starts Halo 2 while weeping*

As fulfilling as that mass explosion is, it does nothing but blow up hanger floor, as all Thunderstormed elites usually survive, and laugh at you. Those fiends! Theyre actually enjoying it.

Now it makes more sense to take out the grunts close enough to your part of the hanger that you can cloak and run over to pick up dropped nades. This keeps you well enough supplied to take on all those annoying waves of elites.Well I'll be damned. With GBD on most of the time, I never thought of setting up a huge grenade pile right in their midst. I mean we need to see more of this. And this. We need coordinated grenade death traps, not the random Grunt Funeral explosions that are supposedly strategic. Imagine if Pinata was in H2.

Anyway, THANKS MUCHO to the OP, for giving me something great to repy too! I haven't watched to vids yet, I will later, but the read was great. Nice job bringing the conversation back to GAMEPLAY!No problem. It's my only life purpose at the moment. If I had CEA, I might have been doing that.
If it weren't for Grumpy and MisterMonopoli, I wouldn't even be interested in H2 SLASO. Give them credit. I'm just a strategic adviser to the community.
