@ Womy - My old tuts for Marine and vehicle gathering was lost when my YT channel went up in smoke so I'll put something together tonight.

It just so happens that I'm right at the point where I just trapped Johnson and I blocked the 3 marines from going into Sniper Alley, so that is the first step for me. 4 Marines including Johnson.

I'll post the tuts sometime tonight. From Zanzibar on there are 13 Marines...10 for the 5 Hogs with 2 Marines each and 3 at the Scarab spawn. So the whole problem with Marines is how many you have at HZ before the first Hog is spawned. When I had 18 Marines I only got 5 Marines saved behind HZ. If you manage to save 7 Marines there, you will have 20 Marines total in the end. To save even 5 at HZ is tough because they want to deload or they will not cooperate.

To make it less complicated I'll do the vehicles first, then the Marines and then both. My best for Ghosts and Hogs is 29 Ghosts and 6 Hogs.

I may have to make a thread so I can edit the original post. Vid later tonight.

Hey Grumpy, has anyone ever done an AI collection on The Arbiter? I was just playing it and the heretic Grunts and Elites seem to follow you everywhere (of course this is after the hangar battles *shudders*). I think with enough effort, it might be possible to get like 30 Grunts. 30 plasma grenade throwing Grunts...

Lol, nope, a gaggle of Grunts would be too cool.

Well my testing tells me that you could have a zoo outside where the Heretic leader escapes. Maybe even stop him from leaving and then get all the Heretics outside. It would be the ultimate boss battle. :P

Once you have them outside, just block the door with a Banshee (if it gets destroyed, there will always be more), jump over it, and when you're on the other side of the glass, they can't see you but you can see them. You move to the left, they'll go there. You move to the right, they'll go there. Fire your gun and they'll have their attention on you. It might be best to block the other door with a Banshee too so they don't go there.

Believe it or not, I had no problems getting cps. The real problem would be surviving the immense amount of needlers, carbines, and sentinel beams. There isn't much cover and you have to get them past the loading point (I don't know if they'll vanish but I do know that they won't proceed). I'm going to try it legitimately later and see if I can get a tutorial out of it.

Rofl, that will be hilarious (see bold highlight). I don't think they deload, that lz is pretty forgiving since the whole station stays mostly loaded.

It's already hilarious with just Elites. Add in the Grunts and it's like a safari. :P

I suspect that the ones from the hangar (the ones that spawn with the sword Elite + fuel rod gun Grunts) will disappear when you go far enough after the loading point. I'm not entirely sure.

Also, I'm attempting it legitimately and I got part of the setup already done. I blocked the allies that only spawn when the game can't detect allies, only losing 2 Grunts to them. I also killed 2 Elites because I couldn't (I think) get them past my second blockade without allowing the other Covies to re-enter the area.

Also, I think I might be trying The Arbiter LASO. The 2 Elites that don't go into the elevator are still affected by the 'go cloak' scripting if they are moved into it (which is impossible afaik. Only 1 can be brought). Only difference is that they don't de-cloak. Give him a sword and he'll charge at enemies and then return to the elevator. But if you go too far from the elevator, he'll disappear.

I know what you mean about having to open up a blockade just to allow a couple more AI, sometimes I just kill them too rather than have them all run out, lol.

Wow, don't go in the elevator? Are we talking about the usual 2 Elites here?

Yep. AI collections often come to that kind of situation.

Speaking of which, here it is. It's WIP because there's some Heretics missing (to be specific, a bunch of Grunts, up to 12 perhaps, the 2 Elites I killed, and that sword Elite who would have made it more harder). And I didn't get all of them out of the room (which is why I killed them off). I have plenty of game saves/starting points though.

Also, I didn't spawn the Grunts that spawn in the small room right before the Heretic boss spawns; some enemies only spawn if you are detected.

It's still a neat collection though. Very convenient at least since they follow me everywhere (until I enter certain rooms which make them go ahead of me). Wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. Angry skull made a big difference. :P With it off, there isn't much to worry about.

I'm talking about the Elites that you see immediately after the cutscene.

Btw, just saw your Outskirts tutorial video. I found that if you go on the roof, avoid the Jackal sniper alley spawn point on the roof (where the skull spawn randomizer thing is triggered), drop down to HZ, save Stacker and his buddy, you'll get the extra marines and the 3 marines will be intact (as the Jackal snipers will be despawned. But going down to them spawns the Stealth Elites. Or there will be 3 additional marines at the Stealth Elites. I don't remember). I don't want to try it again because I hate getting the IWHBYD skull. What do you mean by restart Xbox if skull doesn't appear? For PC, does this mean close H2 and run it again?

Those two first Elites on Arbiter always go down the Elevator on an xbox.

For console, saving Stacker first does nothing. 5 is the most I've seen there by anyone. If you save the very first marines at the beginning, no Marines come in the Pelican. If you save the 3 Pelican Marines, no extra Marines spawn at the HZ step CP.

Also, those Stealth Elites are always there, until the skull is spawned and then all AI are wiped out but this time was unusual because they did not deload.

Edit: I decided to investigate the marines spawning more because it's been about 5 years since me and a few people at HIH had collected Marines.

Johnson may be a culprit in the Marines spawning past the HZ checkpoint. Plus, now that I think about it, in Legendary aren't there just 2 marines that spawn just before the hallway fight at Hotel Zanzibar if the conditions are right?

You were right, at least so far. I stashed the 3 Marines from the Pelican and went around to HZ. 2 guys outside were rescued and 2 inside were spawned. So it looks like the total is 7 saved but the one complication is the skull did not spawn so all is for nothing. The spawning of the skull may yet play a role in this spawning business.

Heh, I'm not going to redo the tut until I have more answers than questions.

I forgot one important thing I have to test...the loadzone in the hallway. I've been screwed by that thing many times so we'll see which set of Marines make it. Maybe both will, it looks like maybe 23 can be saved but there's a long way to go.

I'm not going to try for the record on the Ghosts or Marines. My goal is to get enough vehicles into the courtyard of the IWHBYD skull fight that I can win the fight without killing any AI. An off-shoot of that is gather about 20 Marines and place them at different parts of the beach/tunnel maps, then bring the 28 Elites saved from the IWHBYD fight to do battle. I could build forts for both sides, lol. I could turn on Catch, GBD and such and have plenty of mayhem. Hell, even 20 Elites vs 20 Marines would be cool, imo.

Sounds diabolical. But how would you bring the 20-28 Elites? :S

Btw, so did you enjoy the Heretic collection or is it kinda old?

  • 01.01.2012 12:13 AM PDT

Crap, I forgot to watch it after I was done filming. I just watched it now, hilarious and really cool at the same time. They blindly move back and forth with you heh heh. Top notch collection my friend. So no, it's not old seeing as how that's the most AI on that level that's ever been collected.

Elite movement; I could keep them in vehicles, they won't fire at me while pushing them with a Hog and if they do they are so close it won't really harm you.

Thanks! Yay!! I'm going to try to get all the Grunts this time (with the exception or 2 stubborn ones). Also, my new years Councilors vs. Tartarus battle is underway right now.

Is it easy moving them or is it slow, grueling a.k.a pain in the ass?

Halo 2, I'm sorry I ever got mad at you. YAHHOO!! I did it!! I got all the Heretics (minus 2 Grunts. Edit: also, 3 fuel rod gun Grunts and the sword Elite), allies blocked, access to the hangar room, and the Heretic boss!!!

I didn't go through the window. I just kept lunging at him and then he did that surprise animation and just stood there. Now I can have a Heretic family photo shoot!!! :D:D:D:D:D

I tried to bring the sword Elite but he's just too hazardous. The allies must be blocked. Leave them alone and they'll kill some Heretics.

I killed the fuel rod Grunts so I could get more ammo for the fuel rod gun. Trying to fight all those Heretics is crazy. I need something to do heavy damage. I also found a good position for firefight style combat. I'll get a tutorial and demonstration video up asap so you guys can try it (and do better than me).

If I move 3 Elites at once (Hog) then I use another Hog, then that is slow but 3 at a time makes up for it. Ghosts are no prob with a Hog.

The CvT battle sounds epic.

I see.

Yes it does. If only Tartarus didn't disappear. :( I think bringing Tartarus on the Banshee to the hall has interesting side effects. I think that it can either end the level (triggering the cutscene) or just make Tartarus disappear.

On the other hand, The Arbiter collection is much better now as I have done a lot of testing and I've figured out which enemies are freeroaming and which enemies should be killed or ignored (because they are stuck where they spawn):

-the 2 turret Grunts
-the 2 Grunts that spawn in the room right before the room with the Sentinel Beam Heretics
-the 2 Grunts that spawn at the end of the second to last room before the Heretic boss (I think they're sleeping when they spawn)
-the 3 Grunts and 2 Heretics that spawn in the room directly before the Heretic boss appears

I've got 2 saves: one where me and my modded Elite (I can easily un-mod him) ally kick Heretic ass (and all the non-freeroaming enemies have been killed off) and one where I got the Heretic leader but I have yet to get all the Covies in the room and the Elite.

Yup, however, sniper alley stops the randomizer. Once you trigger sniper alley and get the CP the skull will be there or not and will never change no matter how many times you restart. If you restart on a CP before the sniper alley the skull will still have a 1 in 7 chance to respawn so you can keep restarting until the skull appears.

What about the cp that you get where the Goldie spawns? Or is that the same one as the saving Stacker part?

Also, does dying 5 times to revert cp work in H2 for Xbox? Does it make a difference or is that also restarting?

Where is the Goldie spawn CP?

Yeah, you can revert but not on some CP's. I've never been able to revert out of the sniper alley CP.

Edit: Wow, something strange just happened. i was restarting the box over and over, still hoping to get the skull on the save where I went to Stacker first. So I went all the way back to the Pelican and spawned sniper alley and as I was making my way to the skull the enemies vanished from my motion tracker. This always happens when the skull is going to appear, the enemies vanish. Anyway, when I got to the skull room the skull did not appear and when I went over to sniper alley all the enemies were gone. This is highly unusual for me.

I just got the skull on the Stacker CP, so the 1 in 7 was still active. I wonder if you could go through the whole level and the go back and get it (not that I would want to)? Now I'm set, 9 Marines to start (including Johnson and the Pelican turret dude). So...9 + 10 (Hog Marines) + 1 (by the RL) + 3 at the Scarab spawn. 23 total if none deload lol.

Next step after the collections..win the fight without killing.

Holy crap, I think I can make the skull spawn every time I want, any time! I must do some more testing pronto!

Yay! Maybe I might try a OS collection after all.

Have you tried getting them interested in vehicles (simply get the marines in the vehicle, then get them out, get the next bunch in, get them out, repeat until they're all chasing you and then drive off? Then they might not deload?

Every time?! Anytime?!! TEST!! TEST!!!

Btw I just got back from The Arbiter.

The collection is a pain in the ass to manage, mainly because they delete scenery items!! 0_0 There's too many of them.

But I got it. I finally got the cp with Heretic boss, a bunch of Heretics, and an ally Elite who I made invincible by modding (and can undo anytime). I made a setup with several supply cases, moved weapons into the room tons of plasma pistols (not just for the noob combo, which now can kill enemies but because I modded the plasma pistol to work like the H1 plasma pistol so it's uber powerful), plasma rifles (gave it the stun ability but I don't think it works other than making enemies stumble back), and needlers as well as a fuel rod gun, a spare sword, a Sentinel beam, carbines, etc.) and I only lost a few Grunts in the process (edit: I also lost 1 Elite but that was because he went outside with me and I was trying to block him with the Banshee...).

Yeah, I use that on every Marine, I showed that in my tut but to do that you need a Hog. Those 3 guys that spawn at the HZ steps deload when the skull appears. I will delay the skull spawning today, go get a Hog, go back, spawn the skull and see.

AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

This Cairo no deaths attempt (without Johnson) with Black Eye, Sputnik, Catch, Envy, Assassins and Thunderstorm is driving me nuts!

I finally developed enough patience and refined the strategies to get through both hangers on the last attempt. The damn jet pack elites scattered into abnormal spots and I bought the farm. Damnit! I thought I had it good all the way to the bomb room once I got passed the second hanger. No such luck!

New strategies for first hanger:

Using the initial doorway and stair area until all of the grunts are dead is definately the way to go. Once they cannot kill your shields with nade tosses the elites are a matter of waiting for them to settle down, and choose one that isnt facing you. You can noob combo that guy, as an elite not facing you will not dodge an overcharge heading his way in that hanger. Once they are thinned out to a scant three or four left you can safely go pick up some grenades to get the less cooperative ones to die. Typically the last two you have to melee to get some shield back, as there is nothing else to melee for health like turrets and such.

The second hanger is actually easy. I found out that you can noob combo pretty much any elite standing around down by the spot that they land in when exiting the boarding craft. They tend not to move around much. The last attempt I didnt even have to leave from the entrance to the hanger at all until I had thinned everything out to the last 2 elites. Those I went for assassinations on.

Darn near bought it on the armory part, one of the two elites that is in the actual armory part FOLLOWED me down the stairs! I damn near had a heart attack, I have never seen one come down, EVER. That damn Thunderstorm skull really makes them act in much more aggressive ways at times, very unpredictable. He nearly wasted me but I was able to barely get back around a corner before I met my maker. Got through the rest fairly easily, being patient, then off the jet pack guys and that was it.

VERY BUMMED! Guess I will just have to start over, AGAIN. This makes it about eighty attempts now, beginning to hope that we will lose power! Just kidding, someone has to give sliding ghost a run for his money!
