AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

This Cairo no deaths attempt (without Johnson) with Black Eye, Sputnik, Catch, Envy, Assassins and Thunderstorm is driving me nuts!

I finally developed enough patience and refined the strategies to get through both hangers on the last attempt. The damn jet pack elites scattered into abnormal spots and I bought the farm. Damnit! I thought I had it good all the way to the bomb room once I got passed the second hanger. No such luck!

New strategies for first hanger:

Using the initial doorway and stair area until all of the grunts are dead is definately the way to go. Once they cannot kill your shields with nade tosses the elites are a matter of waiting for them to settle down, and choose one that isnt facing you. You can noob combo that guy, as an elite not facing you will not dodge an overcharge heading his way in that hanger. Once they are thinned out to a scant three or four left you can safely go pick up some grenades to get the less cooperative ones to die. Typically the last two you have to melee to get some shield back, as there is nothing else to melee for health like turrets and such.

The second hanger is actually easy. I found out that you can noob combo pretty much any elite standing around down by the spot that they land in when exiting the boarding craft. They tend not to move around much. The last attempt I didnt even have to leave from the entrance to the hanger at all until I had thinned everything out to the last 2 elites. Those I went for assassinations on.

Darn near bought it on the armory part, one of the two elites that is in the actual armory part FOLLOWED me down the stairs! I damn near had a heart attack, I have never seen one come down, EVER. That damn Thunderstorm skull really makes them act in much more aggressive ways at times, very unpredictable. He nearly wasted me but I was able to barely get back around a corner before I met my maker. Got through the rest fairly easily, being patient, then off the jet pack guys and that was it.

VERY BUMMED! Guess I will just have to start over, AGAIN. This makes it about eighty attempts now, beginning to hope that we will lose power! Just kidding, someone has to give sliding ghost a run for his money!
Wow, nice read.

Agreed, second hanger is not a problem.

You mean the Elite followed you back down to the missile room? Damn!

Update. I'm sorry to announce this but I am done with Halo 2 (and Halo as a series). It's not worth it. I play each one that I can access extensively but they all result in the same thing: disappointment and agony. Even H3, my starter Halo game. The crate climbing, the splatter, the AI disappearing, the AI being killed off by the game, the AI making saving throws. It's too unbearable!!

Yesterday, I raged like hell because I spent hours carefully arranging supply cases and bringing in Heretics and when I finally got outside to get in the Banshee, no cp. Not even during the aerial fights. And even before this, I encountered various unpleasant things like Heretic Elites killing themselves while leaning against an object (of course I quickly resolved it by tipping over supply cases and if necessary, putting the objects against pillars that they're fond of).

But these are merely the same experiences I experienced years ago when I was glitching H3. Bungie has disappointed me greatly.

Sorry guys, but until Halo 4, I'm pretty much done with Halo 2 and the others. It's time to retire.

I was going to upload my perfected The Arbiter Heretic AI collection setup (the last part) with the result (several fights).

But several complications and disappointments have made me realize it's pointless.

I gave up on the Elite ally because the room I put him in is no place to fight the Heretics (and to go back for him is just a waste of time. Also, he doesn't stand much of a chance since he really can't kill much).

I also lost my game save with the Heretic leader retained in my raging and it is freaking hard to replicate it because even if I surprise him, he still goes in the Banshee. Also, I lost my videos that showed me herding the damn bastards.

I'm not going to bother trying it again because it's not worth it. Carbines and Needlers. Enemies that like to get close and personal. Hardly any cover. This is the only scripted megabattle in Halo 2 afaik and there's no value in it at all! :'(

Hate to say it, but I can't stand H2's AI anymore. Or the physics or cps.

GJ Councilors collection - Failed miserably to successfully execute a long lasting battle between them and Tartarus because of certain flaws in H2 Vista and because of the ridiculous kill barrier on the bottom platform
The Arbiter Heretic AI collection - Failed. Could only use 1/3 of the map for the battle.
Outskirts AI collection - Failed. I.e. couldn't stop the 3 marines from disappearing.
GJ AI collection - Somewhat successful but failed at getting the Hunters there unscathed. Still can't get them to jump over to Tartarus' platform without them dying.

That was your assassination opportunity. Wait at the foot of the steps and one of them will come to you. Wait and he'll turn around leaving his back open.

I showed it to the H2 community a while ago. At that time, I was under the impression that it was because I was shooting my gun that they drew near. After seeing Monopoli's SLASO segmented run and doing several tests of my own, I realized you just have to go there and wait.

You're making me want to play CS again! Noooo!! (it's more preferable than AI collections)

OK, so I restarted AGAIN, and I heard a piece of dialogue I have never ever seen reported!

Opening battle, and one of the marines lines is....

Kick em in the NUTS!

I damn near fell over laughing! I stopped immediately to post this!

What a riot this game can be, even after how many years of playing it?

Dear Sliding Ghost:

I know only part of your pain, a smidgen of your anguish, a sliver of the sweat equity you put into the monumentous challenges that you willingly place before yourself........and if you quit, then the world is a lesser place.

You are an inspiration to all of us who follow your example..it is not your time to pass into the halls of the past, but your time to blaze into the future, on the broken backs of those grouped ghosts, crazy combinations of carbine elites, sinfully difficult skull combinations and whatever lame alliterations I can manage.....If you do go, you will be missed, if you do stay, you will be angry, sorrowful, disgusted and incredibly looked up to!

If it weren't for you guys, I wouldn't be returning.

That describes exactly how I feel. I'm touched that you would go through so much to elaborate on the damn agony. Anyways, I might not retire yet. Because I finally figured out how to get the damn Heretic leader to stop every single time (temporarily though. After I surprise him, he always runs to that Banshee).

All we have to do is watch for burnout, it can cause irrational thought at times, even slight hallucinations. Approach the agony and ecstasy with moderation if possible.

Welp, it is do or die time!

I am at the bomb room airlock, full overshields, seven plasma pistols, a full BR, four of each nade, and a tight chest (and a partridge in a pear tree?).

I got exceptionally patient, and it was a good thing, especially since one of the first jet pack elites found a very good hidey hole and would have smoked me if I had not backtracked out all the way to the spot you jump out of the tunnel, and spotted him hiding on top of one of the structures.

I used to think that they dumbed down the H2 PP way too much, but I have had some wicked long overcharge shots that have made getting this far possible. If you are far enough away, or they elite is not facing you, you can land an overcharge shot long distance, then follow up with as much BR as you can to kill that mofo dead.

Life is good, I think I just might let that game on pause sit a bit till I dump some of this stress! Then we see what the bomb room holds.....................

Holy crap! That many weapons hoarded for several Elite Rangers? Have you ever got any successful assassination attempts on them? It should be possible on some of them.

Gotta admit, the overcharge bolt has good tracking.

My time will come soon... the time to abandon all that I've worked on in favor of eternal slumber. I am preparing my last Halo 2 (and possibly Halo series) contribution before I settle down for peaceful gameplay with no fuss.

Expect videos, screenshots, and all sorts of mind blowing data very soon!! This will be extremely extensive that it will surpass the extreme data collections that I have previously posted in extremely extreme manners: H2 LASO, Councilors army, H3 Mega AI collection. Soon, you will all have your very own Halo 2 megabattle to play with.

Gulp......SG, now I can say that I do know you pain when the game JUST SCREWS YOU!

I went for the attempt at the bomb room to complete my no die run, had three elites down and was very excited! I went to the back of the bomb room where the marine is and was looking to get some elevation, I was having a hard time locating the remaining elites and thought there might be a good perch up there to spot them from. Great Idea huh?

I got myself up onto the back end of MAC gun loading structure, jumped back down when I saw the MAC gun machinery moving and looked things over, thinking that might not be a safe place. I watched the mechanism work for a few minutes, and decided that it comes no where near the back of the structure and deemed it safe......I jump back up, zoom my view to see what I can see, spot two of them behind a container that got moved by a nade toss and................WHAM, next thing I know my body is flying OUTSIDE the station and I AM DEAD!

I said aloud, WHAT THE F--U--CK JUST HAPPENED?

I paused the game, then let it continue to watch my final death spiral in space......reached over to my ex-box and turned the power off......DISMAY!

By the way, SG, the tracking of an overcharge only works on a visible target, when assassins is active you can only score a hit with an OC when it is a straight line shot and the target does not move out of the way. It will not track if they are fully cloaked. All of those shots I do that way are on unsuspecting long distance targets. Half of the time they dont see the OC coming their way, half of the time they move. Hence the need for all of those extra PP's going in, to make sure I had more than ample firepower for closer range shots that would likely be dodged.

Praise be the Forerunners! That's very comforting to read. So many BS things happen and the agony and the misery but I always come back. Either I love pain or this Halo simply offers way more than the other ones.

I'm sorry to hear that. I tend to stay away from that thing because the Elites will get you. I've had sword Elites pounce me several times in that area.

Oh right. I almost forgot. Did you try making it so that you only have a body part in view (i.e. Elite's arm sticking out)? Then they never see you. Works every time afaik.

Btw I got the Heretic leader to the top of The Arbiter in sp. That has been done before right?
