No Elites in Halo 3: ODST = FAIL

Wow who would have guessed it huh? Halo 3 announced at e3... the mind boggles. God knows how long I've been waiting for this announcement and with all jokes aside I think we all knew it was coming... but with respect to the "When Bungie says so" Blammage crowd I honestly feel for anyone of you who even comprehended the idea that Bungie's "next project" was anything other than Halo.

I shall now turn on the humour again and point and laugh in your simple faces Tehhehehehehe..... silly brown nosers. :)

But to move on from that high I feel I must post my views and hopes to peeps who care before I burst. The trailer itself looked amazing and despite their only being so much a graphics engine has to to render angled and metallic shapes (After all the Chief looked just as good as I ever thought he needed to in Halo2) his armour did have some sexy light effects with the long awaited reflective visor finally being put into action. But the most impressive thing for me was how open ended this level looked. Miles away from the cramped and restrictive corridors of Halo2 this offered alot of space for Halo CE style battle fields which was probably the thing I missed most from the last venture.

Moving on.... to The List

There is a number of features I was mighty pissed off with Halo 2 for, this is despite it being an amazing game and if it had followed anything other than Halo CE I think I could have easily forgiven these snags. So without further a due heres my Halo 3 must list!

10. Cheese It: Sprint
He's a super soldier with an augemented body and MJOLNIR armour that increases his physical abilities in everyway so I'd like to be able to break into a sprint if I'm getting my head kicked in as opposed to taking a gentle jog away from certain doom.

9: No Boss Battles!
Dear God no more! Throw an army of tanks at us if you must but don't ever pull the over shielded boss character crap again. Its unrealistic and tedious.

8: GRAW Type visor! :D
For a first person view you have to admit that Halo2's visor is rather blank and boring by todays standards. As well as Metroid esc helmet t-blam!-s around the screen a video stream during play (GRAW) would also be welcomed. Give us a variety of visual modes like night and heat vision to help with the hyper detailed visuals and light effects that as proved by other next gen games like Quake 4 can make things much too dark.

7: Extra Accuracy
Kneeling or going prone (If added) should help with accuracy and as Counter Strike players will be aware of it adds quite a bit of strategy and holts those who run and gun.

6: Sort out Head Shots
I love the Battle Rifle I really do but my God are head shots handy! I think a smaller splash box is needed and in the chiefs case I think that only a direct visor shot from either a Battle rifle (all 3 rounds hitting) or a sniper round should take a player out. Pistol rounds shouldn't break through so easily, so I suggest adding partly transpartent cracks (to the visor) to warn the player of the state of their head. The covenant also need sorted especially grunts, like is it just me or are their heads automatically fixed to my reticle?

5: Stop Jumping like a girl!
You have to hand it to the Chief for being a half tonne he can't half float. I'd like to control how high the Chief leaps Mario style with short jumps being but a slight click and huge ground scuffing leap being a seconds hold away. Also a way to grab onto and mount a wall thats just that bit too high to leap over is needed.

4: Customisable Shield
I want to be able to over charge or undercharge it with an over charged shield taking forever to recharge and an undercharged one doing the opposite. This would help add an extra dose of strategy to the Halo fray as players customise their shields to prepare for a coming battle.

3: AI Improved
Well this is a given that I'm sure Bungie is well aware of so I'll just skip this it.

2: Beef up the Plasma!
Why do these weapons suck so bad? Their heated at over a thousand degrees and are bloody big ass, heavy bolts of death. I want to see them firstly taking out a marine with a single head shot and a single direct hit knocking them about like an Hadukan. Also hearing reassuring splash damage from each shot and maybe burning scenary where they impact would be sweet.

1: GIVE ME MY ARMOUR BACK!
Seriously why was our health gauge removed?! To appease crap players who can no longer fight with a full shield and a single red bar of health maybe? Thats just silly after all if you lose your shield in Halo2 you might as well have only that single strand of health for how long you last without it. The armour when full added alot of strategy and allowed you to go gong hoe in the original as you knew that when your shield went down you had a good reserve of health to expend before going down.

As I seen it your shield was your gambling tool and your armour was your health. So if you gambled badly you suffered for it but in Halo 2 if you throw your life about, lost your shield, took alot of damage and somehow didn't die you might as well have never gotten into that spot.

Also I hate how Elites recover from an attack if their shield recharges. This renders short scraps as useless because you have to take the enemy out at that moment. Brutes need to be sorted as well for anything other than a few head shots will take them out. Please Bungie let me shoot out a rampaging Brutes legs and watch him tumble in pain to the ground before ARing his crap body into the ground, it would make my Christmas, Summer... and even Hanukkah if it helps.

----------
So thats that that feel free to pass judgement or add your own requests peeps..... I think I've just about got all my requests out in the open so I'm all good.

I do enjoy all of these ideas, the accuracy and sprint among the top two. But with the shield idea, while this is a good idea some other things would be needed to. In the novels an overcharged shield slowed your movement, but added to you defense, it also allowed for higher fall distances (which should be reinstated, jumping out of a banshee 300+ yards in the air and nothing happening unless it hits you is well, odd). Also plasma is a superheated liquid, so it makes more sense to affect your shield more then health since it has to burn you to death. And last my add in

Weapon: Plasma Shield
Come on, this would be sweet for assault and ctf, surround the runner with shieldmen and have a few gunners, create a phalanx and your set.

I agree with 9, and improved AI. Thats all though. All I have to say is please bring back the Halo:Combat Evolved feel and style.

No Elites in Halo 3: ODST = FAIL

My list is ordered by those additions I would like to see the most Locke but I agree with you that the modification of your shield strength is the most intriguing idea that I had and was inspired by the novels. I would like to see this happening on the fly with no pausing required but with anything it should be balanced therefore any shield modification would require your shield to shut down and reboot leaving you defenseless for several seconds. And any over charged shield should be hard and time consuming to recharge.

As for Plasma weapons these weapons should be more likely to instantly kill something than a bullet (With the exception of a well armoured spartan or Hunter) with plasma bolts being rock sized, extremely hot, moving at bullet pace they should pack as much punch as a sledge hammer. Like a hot knife through butter especially to a marine or unarmoured covy. Refering to the books again in the fall of reach they did so much damage, even to the MJOLNIR armour.
