At the start. Those demolished rings with the support lines or waht seem like support lines. Anyone else think they all look like support beams for one big bridge? Similar to the new mombasa bridge?? It cant be the same bridge becaue them be mountains in the distance. But its a nice hint at perhaps a key point in the game involving some fun on a bridge?

Ok...First of all when the ship that Maranda was in jumped with the capital ship didnt the city obliterate? couldn't that be the ruins?

I dont think it is the Mambasa bridge due to the fact that it does not have the same deminisions. This bridge or artifact looks more circular than the Mambasa bridge.

Porssibly the space elevator thing?

I think there's no concievable way that's part of the bridge or the tunnel. Where's the water? is the city across the Ark the ruins of New Mombasa? (if so, i don't think Outskirts and New Mombasa were that far away yknow.)

besides, what could be spread across such a distance other than the tower thing falling, or its something else entirely.

the mountains might have been the ripples of a massive explosion (like if the covent glassed earth), and the bridge was so massive or armoured that it survived somewhat intact, and the water would have evaporated, revealing the ark in the bay

(I really should have quoted. This was in reply to the second message) Now why didn't I think of that ;) Good point. I seem to have forgotten about that little bit of information. Haha.

I'm not saying it is the new mombasa bridge. But first thing I thought when I saw this was it was a bridge! It just has that "Hey I'm a Bridge." vibe to it.

No, that wasn't the bridge. When they show that big creator, on the other side where the city is, i believe the bridge is over there. I think that might be Old Mombasa and where the Forerunner structure is, it was where New Mombasa was before Regret's ship went through Slip Space within the city.

Slipspace could have displaced the water under the bridge to another area. Remember that big explosion, i agree with the fact that the opening of the trailer is New Mombasa's ruins.

Look at the screenshot of the artifact carefully. Look at the background. There's (what looks like) a city skyline.

in bungies FAQ section it states:
"The Covenant has uncovered a massive and ancient artifact under the African soil..."
so it suggests that mombosa is a real possibility.

There, I've taken the liberty of highlighting the pic of the "city skyline" in the trailer.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v237/xaeryx/skyline.jpg

Not a natural formation, I'd bet.

mombosa is in africa , and as bungies FAQ states:

"The New Mombasa City Council had an incredibly efficient public works department until and even during the tragic and devastating Covenant invasion. "

while the fact that earth's public works has obvously surpassed FEMA by then, it points to New Mombosa again

Look at the storyboard concept art here

http://www.bungie.net/images/games/halo3/storyboards/E32006/h 3_e32006_storyboard01_chiefwalk.jpg

Looks more like a bridge now to me. Also that dirt road with the knocked over grunt road scene seems to lead of in that general direction.

So I'm sticking with the fact its definitely a bridge :P Thats obvious. But could it really be near new mombassa? Its not identical to it. But similar. It seems to have more structure beams to it. And if anyone remembrs new mombasa was on the very edge of africa. and was surrounded by water. So theres no way its that bridge in particular. But its definitely a key environment to the story.

Bungie doesn't see gamers any more. They see walking credit cards.

I watched the trailer again and noticed the city skyline in the distance extending quite far. I'm willing to bet this huge artifact (no doubt the Ark) is in fact just outside New Mombasa, and what we see in the distance is the ruined city. Those metal objects could very well be pieces of the bridge, or other debris from New Mombasa, as Regret's slipspace jump did make the city blast outwards.

Looking further back past the bridge you can see a blue horizen. Water? If you look at that as water. Then it sorta seems liek thats where the bridges is coming from. But chances are its just more mountains and just looks blue from the distance and waht not :P Gonna watch the trailer on a high def projector now on my 360. See if i can make it out anymore.

Anybody think maybe since the covenant made it to earth and all that the structure could be what was left of the orbital defense grid destroyed and fallen to earth. Look at the size of the rings compared to the mountains and how many there are scattered in the distance covering several hundred miles.

Thats cos the mountains are far away. the bridge is actually rather close. But alas n o worries. I have spotted the new mombassa bridge after all. When it shows the arc look to the right. see that sorta shadow slanted ring in the distance before all those building shaped shadows? looks like the mombassa bridge. and that looks like a ruined city. ?

it could just be a random thing to fill in the background.

but then again, Bungie does seem to give everything some certain significance, doesnt it?

look at this pic

See that huge building in the middle?
I think those rings are the ones seen in the trailer, although those are smallr.

  • 05.09.2006 6:12 PM PDT

Did anyone stop to think that the Round structures in the back look like rings, like the giant fan in Zanzibar? Just a thought...

Yeah but the fact that it has cables coming down form it suggests its supporting something up. i.e a bridge or a highway?
