Subject: 'I go for the objective' as an excuse

If you 'go for the objective' but still have a negative/barely positive k/d, then guess what? You're doing it wrong. There is no reason to 'go for the objective' and die a lot, because if you do so then you won't get the objective very far and you're nothing more than a distraction for the other team.

THATS MY COOL MAN I CAN'T TAKE IT OFF!

Actually a lot of the players this is directed at are the least detrimental to their team when they're in the respawn screen.

  • 12.20.2011 1:44 PM PDT

they make people who play the objective sound bad.

Im the objective guy on my team and my K/d isnt terrible, i absolutely hate people who use that excuse to go -20.

They're obviously trying to use their previous corpses to block the enemy, while they cap the flag.

Going for the objective=blindly sprinting towards the flag right off of the spawn, disregarding anyone firing at you.

I love the people who defend the objective by camping 3 feet from the flag with a sword/shotty for the entire match and still go -20.

The people who slay the entire time and completely ignore the actual point of the game are just as fun.

My problems [with Reach] are basically just full parties, mlg, and people who go out of their way not to get killed.

You need those people, though. The purpose of an objective game is not to see who can run flags faster, it's to see who can dominate the map more efficiently. That's essentially what objective games are.

"Take control of their base and then return to your base while one player is more or less unarmed" is CTF.

Main slayers are not just for slayer gametypes.

Welcome to the internet. Joy dies here.

lol
If you use "playing the objective is an excuse" as an excuse for holding does it mean you're doing it any less wrong?
If you want to play slayer, play slayer. If you want to play flag, -blam!- cap it. If you want to rack up 100+ kills per game on opponents that can't figure out how their guns work, play gruntpocalypse. The only time issues arise is when people can't figure out how to work the playlist hopper interface and try to play slayer in objective.

I might actually bother playing objective if it didn't take 10 minutes to play a 2 minute game.

I can't play with a full team, so I tend to defend the flag. No one else ever does and if they do?

They choke. I'm good at it. I'll leave if we have control of more then half but otherwise no. I contribute, not stat-pad.

In CTF, to effectively cap the flag or plant the bomb, you pretty much have to dominate the map and temporarily take control of the enemy base. It is much more of a dynamic tactic than slayer.

I'll admit though, if I'm doing bad in BTB, I'll purposefully run the flag/plant the bomb to have "objective player" as my excuse =b

Lol? Big team battle gives you either slayer or objective, and you cant just leave if you get something you dont want.

Didnt think of that?

  • 12.20.2011 5:26 PM PDT

I slay and play the objective. I don't mind holding the oddball or staying in the hill.

  • 12.20.2011 5:34 PM PDT

Tank beats everything!

Visit my youtube channel for Vehicular awesomeness!

Killing is always the primary objective, the flag/bomb/hill or whatever is secondary. It's a first person shooter. Scoring objective is not fun and there is no point. I get more credits for getting kills and for the game lasting longer. It's a win win situation.

If you really are the "playlist purist" you portray yourself as wouldn't you be happy if a team was killing you instead of capping the flag because you still have a chance to win as long as the game is still going?

yeah, the problem is when the entire team does this. No, the problem is when BOTH entire teams are doing this. then the one guy going for the objective is totally justified in going -20 after attacking the objective alone. Repeatedly. it's why i don't play objective much anymore.

accept for people with differing opinions, for them it's a lose-lose situation.

Oh yeah, since somebody does not believe what YOU believe; that makes us vapid...
I cannot grasp that what you call "Something happened to nothing, and that nothing became something, and it was smaller than than a period."

That is because there are a lot of retards who don't go for the objective and just kill those who do for raising k/d.
That is why Slayer and Objective playlists were made.

i don't play objective games on purpose most of the time

  • 12.20.2011 6:24 PM PDT

I gor for the objective.

Ten years of playing Halo has been widely devoted to rescuing panicked flag carriers in the Warthog and shuttling them home for the big win. That sort of work doesn't pay a lot of cRedits, and my K/D ratios would embarass anyone with aspirations of going prop. But, it gets the blood pumping more than anything else in the game.

Just one gamer's opinion.

Hey DeeJ would you like to play Halo: Reach BTB sometime? I can't tonight but maybe tomorrow night or Thursday if you're not too busy? Also, inb4qoutestorm

I think it's funny when people say that, I mean you can slay and play for the objective. I've played Headhunter or CTF games and got +10, +21, etc. and still get 30+ skulls and a flag cap, respectively.

This game

mlg lol went -10 not caring about kills while all his other teammates went positive.. But he is the one who scored 3 flags and brought the other 2 flags to his side to get capped. With out him the stat whores would have tied the game or lost.
