Subject: 'I go for the objective' as an excuse

If you 'go for the objective' but still have a negative/barely positive k/d, then guess what? You're doing it wrong. There is no reason to 'go for the objective' and die a lot, because if you do so then you won't get the objective very far and you're nothing more than a distraction for the other team.

This game

mlg lol went -10 not caring about kills while all his other teammates went positive.. But he is the one who scored 3 flags and brought the other 2 flags to his side to get capped. With out him the stat whores would have tied the game or lost.

not necessarily, im willing to bet his duty was to cap the flag, while everyone else defended him while the other team rushed flag carrier, and got punished because of it. Its a common strategy to designate one person as objective hunter, another as a pure slayer, and two more 'escorts' to help objective hunter and continue the capture if he fails to cap it halfway back from opposing teams' base

I <3 Halo:Reach - amazingly fun and best campaign + amazing Soundtrack
I <3 Halo 3:ODST - best soundtrack + Firefight + Coastal Highway and Mombassa Streets, amazingly unique campaign.
I <3 Halo 3 - best multiplayer levels + Forge + best Custom Games + soundtrack
I <3 Halo 2 - amazing huge fun campaign + soundtrack + Fun multiplayer
I <3 Halo: CE - started it all

Nothing is more irritating then going into Team Objective so my teammates or the enemies just kill the whole game.

I want my elephant back.
Give it to me now!
(Please?)

Me.

lol

Actually, the ones who go for the flag keep the game moving along. If it weren't for them, we would have a Slayer game, unlimited score limit, and a longer game to kill.

Boltshot = mini shotgun

I go for the objective and manage to go positive. A lot of my games from the end of summer to now have me going 1.5+ or something, and I try to play the objective in objective games.

Real account.

If you assign every letter of the alphabet a number, a is 1, b is 2, etc., and you take all of the values of the word "MATH", and add them, you get 42. So math is the meaning of life, the universe, and everything.

I die as the stupid distraction.

But still win. Like a boss.

My buddy has a .85 k/d, and goes for an objective. He also only plays by himself, or with one other person. He has an 85% win percentage. I personally think that is a good support player.

Anything from Assassinating Elites, to helping Cortana destroy Fusion cores, to liberating the Covenant from the prophet of truth, I am all things Halo! See you on the Battlefield...

Objective is something I (majority of the time) go for but the slayer tactics of "who can dominate the map better" are also something I do. However if the other players decide to be a distraction to the opposite team, well then its not good. Im not exactly sure why kd is so important in this game anymore, as well as whether people "always go for the objective." Enjoy the game as it is.

That's what going for the objective IS, it's playing the gametype as intended, trying to win. Think of it like this, if you were playing customs, and you were told the point of the custom game you're playing is to score, would you sit there spawn killing your friends?

The 343 forums suck. They're full of retarded kids and mods who got butthurt in the B.net forums for being told that they're bad.

In order to make any successful push for the objective, you should have about half the team dead. That's not going to happen if everybody's mind is set on grabbing that flag. When the entire team is alive, going for the objective is borderline retarded because you're just throwing yourself at a bunch of people who WANT to kill you.

I go for the objective.

Ten years of playing Halo has been widely devoted to rescuing panicked flag carriers in the Warthog and shuttling them home for the big win. That sort of work doesn't pay a lot of credits, and my K/D ratios would embarrass anyone with aspirations of going prop. But, it gets the blood pumping more than anything else in the game.

Just one gamer's opinion.
Hey DeeJ would you like to play Halo: Reach BTB sometime? I can't tonight but maybe tomorrow night or Thursday if you're not too busy? Also, inb4qoutestorm

Dont be a suck-up, "omg moderator play with me" get outta here cheesy kid. and inb4quotestorm is ironic.

Well... let's look at this, shall we?

I too go for the objective, and I enjoy running up and just touching to flag to give us more time. It's how I play. I sometimes go positive.

You don't have double the objective medals I do, yet you have four times as many games played. For Objective playlists, our win/loss is almost always in the same quadrant. Now considering how folks such as yourself often claim that trueskill doesn't work in this game, it clearly isn't because of you facing better opponents.

Truth be told, I would say that it's more a matter of preference, and anybody hating on the other side's preference is an asshat. You play your way. I'll play mine. Let the people arguing make fools of themselves, neh?

There's a difference between touching the flag to keep it away and mindlessly rushing the base and getting killed repeatedly all game.

Hint: One doesn't happen all game.

Hint 2: One also doesn't mean you die a metric -blam!- ton.

Doesn't matter. I don't have a 4, 5, or 6 K/D because i'm not spending all my time going around killing people. When you want the objective, the best way is to avoid as many enemies as you can, lest you draw the wrath of the whole damn team. You expect me to kill as many people as you when i'm busy trying to get the damn flag and you're trying to rack up a score so you can't help out? Yeah, sure. I'm the one who sucks at this game.

Everyone is entitled to their own wrong opinion.

I'm part of the Bungie.net Minecraft group/server called SeptaCrafters
We're a Bungie.net group that goes to our very own Bungie server. Most players are from the Halo community either off Bungie itself or through word to Halo friends.

I go for the objective if there is no chance of dying.

If I see 2 people I walk the other way.

Making it so that you only have to fight three out of eight people is helping the team more than hiding until you have a chance to grab the flag.

Going for the objective and scoring it are two different things. Just because I go for the objective and play it, it doesn't mean I'm the one who ends up scoring it.

Medals are a skewed way of judging a person's playing style. I might get an unfrig defending my flag. I might score the flag 3 times only by betraying the guy who carried it all the way to our base. They're about as accurate as a nailgun.

Well it's much better than being that guy who enters the enemy spawn in invasion and steals their vehicles, only to bump his k/d up more. Not to mention k/d means nothing.

~Long Live Halo 2
Only regret is I didn't play more of it.

If you haven't noticed by now, I'm sort of a jerk.

We were losing 50-5, until my teammate got the Oddball in Blue Flag and I had the BR/Sniper and took out people as they came around from snipe tower. We wound up winning by a score of 100-51 because of it. He was rarely touched, until he followed me onto the tower, died, and I picked the oddball up to get the last second. The game is in lolsocial (Multi Team), but the point spreads across to every playlist. You need main slayers in objective to ensure your teammates are able to successfully cap/hold the objective (Flag, Ball, or Hill).

The people who slay the entire time and completely ignore the actual point of the game are just as fun.
